Excerpts From Bush's SOTU

Don't forget to visit the many (mostly) Democrat and liberal blogs live-blogging the speech. We'll leave an open thread here right before it begins so you can live blog even if you don't have a blog.

Here's a preview of some excerpts from tonight's speech, obtained at Blogs for Bush (who got it from a White House Press release we also received): Bush will hit three themes:

"First, we must be good stewards of this economy, and renew the great institutions on which millions of our fellow citizens rely.”

“One of America’s most important institutions – a symbol of the trust between generations – is also in need of wise and effective reform. Social Security… on its current path, is headed toward bankruptcy. And so we must join together to strengthen and save Social Security."

His second theme will be asking Americans to support community and faith-based institutions.

“Our second great responsibility to our children and grandchildren is to honor and to pass along the values that sustain a free society… Government is not the source of these values, but government should never undermine them.”

Third, he will move on to terrorism:

"In the long term, the peace we seek will only be achieved by eliminating the conditions that feed radicalism and ideologies of murder."

He'll invoke Israel and Palestine:

“…The goal of two democratic states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace is within reach – and America will help them achieve that goal.”

He'll include Iraq:

“…The new political situation in Iraq opens a new phase of our work in that country…we will increasingly focus our efforts on helping prepare more capable Iraqi security forces – forces with skilled officers, and an effective command structure.”

Could care less about it actually. I'll read it in the paper tomorrow, without the benefit of all the talking heads spinning BS one way or the other. For now, I'm enjoying that little gem of a film about the 1980 olympic hockey team, Miracle.

"First, we must be good stewards of this economy..." Bush has demonstrated his stewardship of the economy by inheriting a budget surplus and turning it into record budget deficits.
