It's about time the liberal haven NY State got it right. Better be careful though, we could be the next target in the War On Terror.

According to Fred Phelps that already seems to be the case.

i think old fred went off the deep end quite some time ago. he actually makes ann coulter look sane. that is the beauty of the first amendment, anyone can be an idiot in public, without fear of the government stepping in, absent some narrowly drawn exceptions, and making you stop. of course, just because you are exercising your right to free speech, doesn't mean that i can't also exercise my right to ignore you. damn, i love this constitution stuff! anyway, to the subject of this thread. nice to know some other judges have seen through the transparently religious, and patently discriminatory laws, barring same-sex marriage. hey, why should gays and lesbians be barred from experiencing the irritation of being married to someone? lol

And now New York will crumble in decay...

Similar lawsuits are also in various stages in New Jersey, Washington, and California. If those all come out in favor of gay rights, you can imagine there will be another anti-gay backlash. What's amusing is that right now in Canada, the liberals are pushing a law to grant full marriage to gays, and the conservative opposition is pushing...civil unions! Further underscoring the differences between America and the rest of the Western world.

SICK!!!!! Don't those frenken judges get it? Gay marrage is a sin. It's like murder!!! Stupid rulings just like rode vs wade. It's unproductive and will lead to the spread of AIDS and other things. Soon you sick people will want to merry animals. NASTY!!! Judges should not be able to rule aginst the will of the people! I'll be happy when Bush puts in some better judges and will be even happier if Ted Kenidy is ousted!!! Dirty demoncats like him don't deserve to be in office.

    JR: *yawn*.

The Big Media Lie, as reflected by JR: "Bigotry plays no role in the GOP. They're merely sincere, 'Compassionate conservatives."'

That would explain why the media dosn't tell us about the muslims sladering christians all over the world including over 2.3 million in Sudan. Human rights right?

Johnny, just stay out of NY then. JR you sound like a real backward thinking idiot. If gay people are allowed to get married, just how will that effect you? Guess what, IT WON'T So why don't you find a real cause to get behind, perhaps Social Security. That means, when you get to old to work at Walmart anymore, maybe you can get a Social Security check every month, so you can still live in the same Trailer.

This decision should not be decided by heathens in black robes.

I'm pretty sure this is an almost inevitable process in the long term. Like all other civil rights issues, it's time will come. Right now we are seeing the all-out reactionary attempt to stop it. The last couple of generations have, by and large, been getting increasingly tolerant of homosexuality. From the polls I've seen, and personal experience with youth, this is a non-issue for most. One of my associates found herself unable to vote in the last election because she is both Pro-Life (staunchly) and Pro-Gay Marriage(staunchly). Gives me hope, anyhow. I suspect the end result will be the govt. will view a Marriage as a civil contract. Then various church's will then be free to decide for themselves to allow it or not, as they should.

ITS ABOUT TIME, I'M MOVING TO NY

With regards to anonymous at 6:42 PM... You obviously have not read my thoughts in the past on this non issue... You sound like a liberal that needs to be educated-not unlike myself when I was 17... Call me (this goes for any ignorants who feel gays marrying gays will mean the end of civilization as we know it) and we will discuss the worthlessness of holy matrimony in this country....

Michael Ditto-- Do I get this Phelps poster right? His objection to the visiting fireman is that (a) he's from here and (b) we aren't sufficiently abusive to homosexuals? Phelps has zero influence outside his own family (I think even the assorted stick-our-big-fat-noses-into-your-bedroom organizations--Dobson, CWA, Right-to-life etc.--find him embarassing) but the sight of a grown man obsessing over other people's love lives is consistantly entertaining.

Adept Havelock said it. Yep. Exactly. Get over it. The arc of history bends towards justice. And as for allowing people to marry animals, I think we already do that. Isn't General Mattis married? JR, get a dictionary please. You are going to get "sladered" in the exchange of ideas if you can't spell a bit.

Good. Gay people should be allowed to be as miserable as the rest of us;-)

justpaul: That pretty much sums up my view of the matter.

Glanton, You want to know what's really funny though? I have a number of gay friends in long term relationships who openly admit they would never get married because gay divorces are so much easier on everyone involved. No lawyers, no judge, no alimony. Just a moving truck and a couple of friends to help you carry stuff. But they should have the option. It's not going to make my marriage any less real or sincere because two men or two women down the street get married.

molly, if you've not witnessed the "fred phelps' road show" in person, you haven't lived! he came to my poor little town, to protest a play the local college was putting on. even the local conservatives and homophobes thought he was a loony toon. it was kind of weird seeing the reaction of the local rednecks, defending "their" fags! don't need no outsiders coming in and abusing our gays and lesbos, dammit! ah yes, life in a small town does have its moments of complete surrealism.

So if you get a divorce in MA, is she still your sister?

Doc Ace- Really sad. We've come to expect a greater level of trolling from you. This one is just pathetic. Last time I checked, MA had the lowest incidence of divorce per capita. You know divorce, the thing Jesus actually came out against, as opposed to his never saying a word about homosexuality, at least not one word that made it into that literary collection called The Bible. Must be those wonderful MA family values. Besides, If we are going to kick around crass assumptions, I thought it was "everything's relative in the South". ;)
