Feingold Conference Call: Questions, Anyone?

I'll be participating in a blogger telephone conference call late today with Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI). I will be able to ask a question or two....If you have one you think would be worthwhile asking, feel free to leave it in the comments. [Note to right wingers here: Don't bother.]

Ask him whether Dems and Republicans agree that when we're looking for budget cuts, that some poorly performing, ill-conceived gov't initiatives should be on the chopping block...starting with the War on Drugs, ONDCP media campaign, hell, the ONDCP itself, prison sentencing reform (as a cost savings measure), defunding drug "task forces", "high intensity drug trafficing areas", student drug testing, etc. etc. Why cut popular good or middling programs with a bigger constituency like ag subsidies or the army corp water projects when you have bureaucratic boondoggles like ONDCP that have positive little to show for the billions of wasted tax dollars? Can't any mistake ever be de-funded? And if he disagrees with that, ask why the Dems shouldn't target these projects of Reps refuse to...

This is out of your main area of interest but if you have time here is something I am curious about. I suspect someone else may ask him the question and if they do I would like to know what he thinks. Ask him if he is going to support lowering the overall limit on farm program payments to $250,000 dollars (payments can currently exceed one million dollars) so taxpayer money is not spent supporting big agribusiness operations who don't need the help. The New York Times had an article on this topic on Sunday, February six if you want more details. Thanks, Tony

Thanks, Jeralyn... would the Senator consider introducting a bill requiring all for-profit radio and TV outlets (local and national) to file quarterly or monthly political advertising revenue reports with the FEC and/or FCC, to include 1) name and address of purchasing organizations or individuals (federal, 527, 501c3), and contact information for the point person(s) at the organization; 2) identity and contact points of media buyer, where applicable; 3) reference information identifying corporate parent of the media organization in receipt of revenue; 4) amount paid to media organization per aired spot, correlated with specific purchasing organization; 5) percentage breakdown of political ad revenue relative to total ad revenue, quarterly. I think there is bi-partisan antipathy toward the political air wars, and a need to sunshine political revenue streams for our commercial broadcast corporations and their political clients. Perhaps such a Senate bill could companion with Rep. Slaughter's effort to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine. Would something like this have legs?

ask if we can have patriot act section 210 repealed. that is the section that allows monitoring of people's internet use without a warrant.

No specific questions, but several topics of interest: Social Security "reform" Congressional investigation of detainee abuse Medicare funding Rollback of tax cuts Iran N. Korea WHINSEC (formerly the School of the Americas)

Gepardt got pasted in the primaries, and it was clear that the party wasn't behind him. Doesn't a similar fate await any democrat who takes a protectionist stance on trade issues?

Ask him about voting in Milwaukee. Ask him twice if it seems appropriate. -C

Would th' Seantor support a bill that required U.S. companies who outsource their jobs overseas t' pay th' current U.S. minimum wage t' th' employees overseas? That would increase th' income level o' th' overseas workers and give them more disposable income allowin' them to purchace goods fer themselves and increase th' local economy. It seems that it would be a good step in insurin' national security. More jobs overseas means less pressure on th' local herds t' come t' th' US t' find a job.

Gephardt lost because he's an old face who never really repudiated the war (instead focusing on the economy).

I like that one Tex, and I would add they must also abide all workplace related labor laws regarding safety, overtime, etc. Or go a step further and propose a trade embargo against any nation that does not meet accepted international human rights and fair labor standards. Maybe then the US could actually start manufacturing things again! I have a simple question for him, whould he support an end to the prohibition of marijuana?
