Ken Salazar: Still a Democrat?

Newly elected Colorado Senator Ken Salazar's votes have puzzled many Democrats who voted for him. I write about why, here. The important question: Which way will he go with judicial nominations, particularly that of William G. Meyer, III, whom Democrats strongly oppose for his environmental record?

He's still a Democrat. Just not your type of Democrat. How dare he think for himself and not just parrot the party line.

Bocca you so funny Unlike in the Repub party where if you are not conservative enough you are forced of chairmanships and if its during an election will have a well funded conservative run against you in the primary.

Salazar only won office by being less strident and more centrist than his fellow Dems - had he been the way the Dems on this list want him to be he never wouldda bucked the trend and won office in the first place. There will be lots more of such people in your future, if you're to have one, that is. The number of safe seats for the Pelosis and the Kerrys is shrinking. If you wanna run more Hard Left candidates, you'll need a new party.

The senate candidates from Colorado are called "stealth candidates" because their hidden agenda is unknown to voters. Nighthorse Campbell changed to the surprise of many Dems, you'll have to watch Salazar carefully, his opinions are only a cover.

Sorry, ras, but I saw the whole thing first hand. I live in Colorado and followed that election closely. Salazar won by being a longtime party insider in the state. When he declared for Senate, it was a surprise to most Dems. We had him pegged for governor next time 'round. All the other potential candidates with party connections cleared out of his way to avoid draining his money in a primary race. So Salazar got the nomination because he's part of the party machine, not because he stands against it. He was also helped by strong support from Hispanic voters.

One more thing: if you believe Salazar isn't a reliable Dem, Google up "Salazar v. Davidson" and "Colorado General Assembly v. Salazar".

Quaker - As an ex-Coloradain, you got it right. He also profited by having a very week opponent with a high negative figure. I think he is now trying to move to the middle, because next time around he won't have it so easy.
