A Woman's Walk

Lisa Thomas is walking - from Alabama to Washington D.C. Today she reached North Carolina, 925 miles so far.

Ms. Thomas is walking to end the death penalty and hunger. She's being followed by a friend in a van, covered with signs referring to both. Project Hope has begun a blog to follow her journey.

Lisa Thomas, 52, the manager of a food bank in Brewton, Ala., has found both hospitality and hostility on her trip, and says she was almost run down by a pick-up truck in South Carolina, but she says she is continuing on her journey to try to make a difference.

“Thousands are seeing my signs,” she said from her cell phone on Route 29 near the North Carolina-South Carolina border today. “If it makes no more difference than that, it makes a difference.”

You can offer your support by calling Ms. Thomas on her cell phone. The number is on the Project Hope Blog.

If you live along or near Route 29 in North Carolina, PFADP encourages you to give Lisa a call and consider offering hospitality at your church or home.

ok, almost being run down by a pick-up truck in south carolina may have just been coincidence. for those who've never driven in sc, it is an experience not soon forgotten, at least not without the aid of strong drink or prescription medication!

No Schiavo jokes please! I wish she would also walk to end Dandruff and Athelete's feet. Can she be sponsored by a huge heartless corporation?

Anybody who does anything about injustice, no matter how small, is super cool in my book.

Wow. The first news about Alabama, my home state that I fled in 1969, although I visit friends and family every year, that I have not been ashamed to read. My day is made.
