Your Military At Work

Via Cursor:

Steve Gilliard finds Army recruiters' efforts to send "Private ADD" to Iraq, to serve alongside "Pvt. Asthma, Pvt. Pothead, and Pvt. Sneakthief," reminiscent of Robert McNamara's "Moron Corps."

Charles Graner testified today in Lynndie England's sentencing proceeding that leading prisoners around on a leash was a legitimate training aid. Flashback: Freed death row inmate Nick Yarris discusses Charles Graner's cruel tendencies as a Pa. prison guard. (More on Graner's abuse here.) Yarris, represented by frequent TL commenter Peter Goldberger, was exonerated by DNA evidence and released from prison after serving 22 years.

Then there's this news about Pat Tillman. Army officials knew early on that Pat Tillman died from friendly fire -- days before a nationally televised memorial service--but they didn't tell his family or the public until weeks later.

The first Army investigator who looked into the death of former NFL player Pat Tillman in Afghanistan last year found within days that he was killed by his fellow Rangers in an act of "gross negligence," but Army officials decided not to inform Tillman's family or the public until weeks after a nationally televised memorial service.

A new Army report on the death shows that top Army officials, including the theater commander, Gen. John P. Abizaid, were told that Tillman's death was fratricide days before the service.

Update on Nick Yarris: He's getting married.

The judge in the England case just threw out the verdict. This is all just so humiliating for this whole country. Thanks Monkey Boy and Robo Man. Nevertheless, it's good that it will continue in that further details hopefully will filter into the MSM pointing to the architects of this disaster. And we have not seen the worst of what happened there by any stretch. Just ask any politician who got the "special viewing" last year. Their faces will turn pale. But they clam up. Maybe we can set up our military recruiters in the inner city special ed classrooms.

Actually, what the judge threw out was England's guilty plea, and the judge did so based on Graner's testimony this morning that England was simply doing what Graner told her to do (IOW, she was following orders).

The Tillman case is outrageous. They knew immediately what happened and burned his uniform to destroy evidence. If it wasn't for his parents persistance there is indication they might not have ever made it public. The Bush army of imcompentents and those who cover up for the incompetents. The murder of the italian security officer wasn't deliberate but it was involuntary manslaughter because the men who did it weren't properly trained and were fatigued.

what history does the military have of being honest with the american people and it's cannon fodder, er, soldiers? and then they wonder why we don't trust a word they say. even when we tell them to first get the smirk of their faces. i like what tillman's brother said, tho, about all the folks who talked about god, and pat being up in heaven with god, etc. his brother said, and i paraphrase, "thanks for your thoughts, but pat wasn't a religous guy. and he's not anywhere. He's dead, in a box, in the ground."

"Posted by What A Load: "The murder of the italian security officer wasn't deliberate" Oh? That's an interesting assertion. G. Sgrena was documenting the warcrimes in Falluja (the kind of reporting that has OFTEN brought death threats from military. I have mentioned a pal of mine who was an information officer and was threatened by his own unit when they thought he might tell on them. A reporter? Soldiers have little or no toleration for their 'betrayal.'). She had also just forced Centcom to disclose their civilian casualty recordkeeping, which Centcom had denied doing. Outing Centcom on that will lead to millions of dollars in restitution lawsuits. G. Sgrena was warned by her kidnappers that Centcom wanted her dead. Centcom clearly lied about what happened that night, and there is little justification for Negroponte's squad to be hanging around where they were, since he wasn't in the immediate area at all. We are FAR from being able to release Centcom from guilt in this action. They had motive; they had opportunity; they had the means -- and they have lied constantly throughout this engagement, and expressed incredible anti-American, anti-Constitutional messages, such as saying that Americans would demand cessation of the Constitution if there was another attack. They'll have to pry it from my still-glowing smudge.

The DOD just called my house to enquire how many 18-21 year olds there were. If you don't think the draft is coming, how's the weather in the dirt where your head is stuck? No, no, we won't go! Draft the twins.

They lied about Tillman. Why should we believe their BS this time?
