10,000 Hits a Minute

The right is already slamming the Huffington Report. One incredibly nasty review proclaimed it the equivalent of Gigli and Ishtar after only ten hours.

Please. It got 8 million hits yesterday - 10,000 hits a minute. Those numbers hardly indicate a box-office failure. Do you think the re-launch of the LA Times website today got that many peeps?

How can anyone judge it so soon? The writers are trying. Give them a chance . I just wish I had time to read more of it.

Update: Austin Bay thinks it's a clog, not a blog. He says the layout is confusing and there are too many voices. I really like the layout of the blog page, and find the choice of who to read refreshing. But at least Austin put some thought into his criticism, unlike many who seem to be slamming it just because it's celebrity driven.

    Have you ever heard of a slashdotting? That's what happened here. They were being mocked at Slashdot yesterday. Get some stats next week and they will be much different.

    Yeah, I've read a few people on the left already say negative things about the blog. So far, I like it. So I don't necessarily like everyone there or agree with everything they say, but it's so diverse and there's such an abundance of news, I haven't quite figured out why some one would criticize it based on the first day. Give me a couple of months and I'm sure I'll have some complaint or another, but sheesh!

    The cognitive dissonance ratio of that many upper crusters (especially the R ones) could easily sink the project, or fragment it, fairly quickly. But to dismiss the phenomenal opening as 'slashdotting' is just like the predictions about Air America -- proved utterly wrong, a huge success. I have to give Ms. Huffington credit for getting Jim Lampley's patriotic Paul Revere Ride out to the multitudes, because it is unlikely to be ignored. Getting Conyers a larger audience is also a great, pro-American accomplishment. And Gary Hart is one of the most knowledgeable terrorism experts we have, and he is going to damp down a lot of fake Fox fallacy. So three cheers for A. Huffington. Make copies of those articles (Lampley, Conyers, Hart), and pass them around to your friends. These are historic acts of courage that deserve the widest audience.

    I imagine that the posting rate will slow down a bit after a few days and it will become much more readable. Currently everyone feels compelled to post as much as possible because, hey, new blog.

    Most sites after appearing on /. become unreadable for at least the day. TL could get this kind of traffic; post some long-winded article about Star Wars, open-source, a new Linux distro, etc. As for the blog itself; standard articles for a left leaning blog peppered with lots of crap, i.e. “WHEN DO I GET TO MEET GWYNETH PALTROW???” and “The Evans Book of Rules”.Surprising number of folks contributing.

    Pigwiggle's patented grunts of dismay at another successful political outreach. How come they hate democracy so much? Oh yeah, because FAIRNESS and LEGALITY have to run from these rightwing rapists.
