Justice Department Passes New P0rnography Rules

The Justice Department passed new p0rnography rules today--shifting the burden of proof to the producer of the material. The producers will have to establish that those depicted in photos and films are adults.

....producers who violate the new requirements would be subject to prison terms of up to five years on the first offense and up to 10 years for subsequent offenses.....producers must keep detailed records that verify the identity and age of each individual depicted.

The regulations also expand the definition of "producer" to include those who publish on the Internet. All of the new rules are intended to implement the Child Protection and Obscenity Enforcement Act, enacted in 2003.

    From what I recall, haven't they been required to keep these records on file since the infamous "Traci Lords" incident of the 1980's? Can't see how this "new" law really changes anything, other than to do something largely irrelevant that plays well to the Dobsonites.

    oh no. my freedom to produce child pornography is being interfered with. Now I know the freedoms being taken from me by the fascist, religious right wing.

    I think part of the problem is that if someone downloads porn from a site that they pay to belong to and subsequently forwards a photo from that website to a friend they become a producer. If a consumer pays for what they believe are legitimate legal photos of consenting adults and forwards them are they really culpable as a distibutor of "child porn"?
