Randy Cunningham: Where's the Ethics Investigation?

What does it take for the Congress to investigate one of their own? Swing State Project has put together this handy chart of the players and properties involved so far in Congressman Randy Cunningham's embroglio. As Wapo reports, now there is a second developer who both bought Cunningham's yacht and helped with financing for a house.

DNC Chair Howard Dean is raising the issue:

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean is trying to get voters to hold the Republican Party responsible for the "culture of corruption" he sees in Washington, but Dean is getting virtually no help from fellow Democrats in the House of Representatives.

In the year since then-Rep. Chris Bell, D-Texas, filed the complaint that triggered the current ethics investigation of House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, not one Democrat has initiated another complaint despite the pleas of outside watchdog groups.

The cause and the condition are the same. I support Dean's efforts, but I also support the Dems in Congress who are faced with a runaway majority party that sees usable politics instead of ideals at every level. The purpose of Congress is to chop down the gates that hold back every kind of graft and corruption and deregulation that can be shoehorned into an illegal Iraq Invasion appropriations bill. That's not Dems fault, but your posting suggests it is. I support party discipline in a case like this -- and solidarity. You seem to blame Dems as if this were an ordinary inning of political baseball. The Rs are pitching grenades in government -- while they refuse to serve in the wars they jingoize.

The DOJ raids on his home and office were clear enough actions from the law enforcement end, but you'd think the majority party would get such an obvious case of corruption up and judged by their ethics panel as soon as they could. If for no other reason than to APPEAR like they care. Seems like party p.r. 101 to me. But this party has such a bold combinaton of arrogance and stupidity that it works most of the time. It's all in the sell, not in what is sold. But you couldn't dress this pig up in ANY costume and make it prettier. I mean, living on the war profiteer's yacht named Duke-Stir??? Give it a few weeks and the old soldier will step down, unless he's the kind that'll never use the eject button. Crooks and liars, out in real life, at least have to be good crooks and liars to survive. Politicos of the same ilk can be borderline retarded about it and STILL line their pockets. Not EVEN borderline, 'cause this sure wasn't. The party chiefs have to be frying him in private, cursing his, to put it nicely, mental incapacity. I'd say it's all amazing, but I need to go puke first.
