I can certainly get behind a push to get the media to pay attention to the important things instead of covering stuff like the runaway bride ad nauseum, but I don't see the real problem with Darfur. It's been covered plenty, just not by those with a pro-U.N. agenda. Unfortunately, the majority of the media will only cover what sells, and what sells is made-up scandals, political smear campaigns, and stupid people doing incredibly stupid things. And speaking of media coverage of more important things: Where is the TalkLeft item on the recent indictment of two plaintiffs bar attorneys for numerous illegal acts. I realize that this would be cutting a little close to the bottom line, but isn't a story about lawyers acting illegally and bilking honest citizens out of settlement monies a story that belongs on a blog which claims to be about crime-related and injustice news? Especially given that it involves the tort king himself?

I don't see why we should have TV news at all. It's a little tougher (although not by much) to get away with covering fluff in a newspaper or on a website.
