House Vote on Patriot Act

How did your Congressperson vote? Here's the tally.

My congresswoman, the terrific Diana DeGette, voted against it. So did my other local favorite, Mark Udall.

Can anyone explain to me why Dana Rohrabacher voted no on this act?

One voted 'no' - one voted 'aye.' Both Repubs. Otter is a real privacy stickler and I knew he'd vote against it.

Can anyone explain to me why Dana Rohrabacher voted no on this act? I saw him on CSPAN for a minute while I was eating dinner....because these measures were also supposed to be temporary. I actually stopped eating - because he's such a fruitcake and that was unexpected.

double-decker, super secret dammnit! Take out 'also' insert 'only' - only supposed to be temporary.

Chris Cox voted "yes", big surprise. I can't be bothered with contacting my congressman. In theory, we have an opportunity to replace him when he moves to the SEC, but given the district's demographics it's a forlorn hope.

I cannot understand why some 2/3 of the democrats want to assure in the public's mind that they are not willing to fight against terrorists and to confirm that the party of the left is not viable in matters of national security.

The reprioritization of America under the auspices of the patriot act. Priority one -- defeating the terrorists -- all other priorities rescinded. Priorities like free speech, free association and expression, freedom of the press, privacy etc. The underlying goal of the Islamic fundamentalist movement and the terrorists who represent them is to put an end to free and open liberal societies. Should we be helping them along?

Not to worry here ... my Rep is Jim McDermott (WA-7). Our state delegation went completely along party lines, 6 nays and 3 ayes. Even our DLCers (Larsen, Smith, sometimes Baird) opposed it. Even our big military/naval guy, Norm Dicks, voted nay. Dave Reichert once again voted against the tenor of his district. Here's hoping we'll coalesce behind a strong candidate in WA-8 and send Reichert packing next year.
