Stupid Criminal of the Week

TChris usually has this category, but I couldn't resist. And who knows, maybe he can top this one: In Massachussetts, a woman reported her marijuana stolen.

A 51-year-old Boylston Street resident reported on July 21 that her residence was broken into sometime between 3:15 and 6 p.m. When asked if anything was missing, the woman reportedly told police "nothing except for her marijuana."

    Stupid, perhaps. Criminal, dunno. Millions of Americans are criminals by this definition, and the linked article suggests that the woman did not pay any price for her supposedly criminal self-accusation: she was not apparently charged for the offense of possession (if any) or even named in the article. And could someone be charged with possession if they were not possessing when charged? (Of a small amount at least, I'm aware of the feds' practices of estimating amounts of contraband that may have been sold, manufactured or possessed prior to a search and arrest, in at least sales cases, which this was apparently not).

    In my area, central NY, a fellow came home to find that his pot had been stolen and called the sheriff to report the break-in. When the police arrived and asked what had been taken he said it was his stash. Afterwards he explained to the police that this was the third time this had happened in the past year and he had had it. The police were gob-smacked that he told them about any of this but he continued and showed them his small grow operation which was the same mistake he had made earlier with some aquaintences hence the break-ins. He wasn't arrested but the police did take his equipment before they left. He also identified who he thought did it and when they were found by the police they were arrested for B&E and possession of pot. In the end he said he didn't care he was just happy that these guys got busted as he was just fed up with getting burglarized.

    I had some pt stolen by contractors my landlord hired. They apparently thought I wouldn't complain. I just said they had stolen $300 dollars from my room. What!? They were going to claim "no, we stole drugs, not money!?" It works both ways;-)

    Theft is theft...when someone steals your stash, prohibition policy leaves you no choice but to resort to street justice if you want to defend your property. Calling the fuzz is just dumb.

    This is one of those things best handled with so called "frontier justice". I echo Kdog's sentiments, calling the fuzz is just plain dumb!
