36 Senators Sign Letter to Bush on Bolton

This just in via e-mail....36 Senate Democrats including all leadership just signed this letter:

Dear Mr. President:

In light of the fact that John Bolton was not truthful to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the questionnaire he swore was truthful, we ask that you do not make a recess appointment of Mr. Bolton to be the Ambassador to the United Nations and instead submit a new nomination to the Senate.

Mr. Bolton’s excuse that he “didn’t recall being interviewed by the State Department’s Inspector General” is simply not believable. How can you forget an interview about an issue so important that the United States Senate unanimously passed an amendment stating that Congress supports “the thorough and expeditious investigation by the Inspector General of the Department of State and the Inspector General of the Central Intelligence Agency into the documents . . . that the President relied on to conclude that Iraq had attempted to obtain uranium from Africa”? The amendment was cosponsored by the Chairmen of both the Foreign Relations Committee and the Intelligence Committee.

Mr. President, we know you are engaged in an effort to strengthen our relationships throughout the world. Sending someone to the United Nations who has not been confirmed by the United States Senate and now who has admitted to not being truthful on a document so important that it requires a sworn affidavit is going to set our efforts back in many ways.

What a show, anyone want to say anything about what Bush and government just did to 5 million jobs and how many homeless that will make? this guy "john", is only for the show and to keep you from seeing the facts of what your government just did to you two days ago. but Bush is just one more Pig walking around looking for something or someone to eat.

As it turns out, Bolton is just one among all the President's men. His lie to the Senate also ensures that "Ongoing Investigation" will remain #1 on the Billboard Top 10 GOP Sound Bites.

For the Bush administration "not being truthful" is a prerequisite for promotion. I'm surprised Bolton has received the Medal of Freedom yet.

Please. Two things. First, the Demos alligator tears are truly hypocritical. I reference back to all the testimony given by Clintonn admin folks who couldn't remember anything. Secondly, the UN is a worthless organization staffed by people who care not on thing about the US, or peace. Why we would worry about what they think is totally beyond me. Finally. People do forget. If you believed they do between '93 and '2000, believe it now.

Fred, you are so right. These people are good at the smoke and mirrors routine, and people should wake up to that fact. It's what goes on behind the smokescreen that we should keep our eye on.

Bolton is heading for a recess appt. anyway, and then, of course, a Bush medal of freedom.

PPJ--I agree that Dems and Republicans should be held to the same standards. I also recall that it was Republicans swearing up and down that they weren't after Clinton because of sex or because they were harrassing him out of pure partisanship, but because he lied. About a non-work-related matter that couldn't be less of their business (or yours), but the Repubs insisted, the only thing that was important was that whatever they asked, even if it was a demand that he titillate them with reports of his sex life, he was required to enlighten them. So these aren't merely the same standards for Ds and Rs, these are standards that the Repubs themselves insisted on. In fact, I'm sure that when Clinton was in office, these were the same standards you supported then--as kneejerkedly as you support all GOP positions.

Who are the other EIGHT Senate Dems? And how's the weather, with their heads up their own arses? Lying to Congress -- that's a great new resume point for Bolton's excellent career as another RIGHTWING PIRATE. Tripoli preyed on our ships. The rightwing preys on our ship of state.

Lying to a congressional committee is equated with just plain ol' forgetting? PPJ, you have said some fairly lame brained things before but you take the cake for this one. You must have a good time every morning waking up, consuming the spin from the Right Wing propaganda machine that appeared during your sleepy time, digesting that bunk, and spewing it on this site. Being an apologist for the Shrub administration seems to be a full time job for you, PPJ. I love how the Republicans can break, twist, and generally ignore the trust given to them by the citizens of the U.S. and then act like nothing happened. Let's see, Bill Clinton didn't tell the truth about a BJ and this is the same as John Bolton not telling the truth about being questioned in regards to the treasonous outing of a NOC CIA agent. Sure, they are both the same. And if you truly believe that I have some beach front property on the lovely moon Titan for sale.

Actually PPJ, the UN might have been a better org for us to belong to had we actually played by the rules... Look up our history with the UN (don;t just recite exactly what Bush has said about the UN it makes you look less intelligent than you are, you know, like a parrot). We never paid our dues. We consistently did not vote for resolutions that did not 100% reflect our prioroties both militarily and financially. On October 31, 1994, the US owed nearly 700 million dollars to the UN. Of course we think the UN is worthless-they moved on without us. Bolton is gonna get in, Bush is going to sidestep the checks and blances system (because he is a fascist)and appoint him. This should scare you Jim, that our "elected" preznit can do this type of thing! Knowing full well he will probably get approved anyways, why not do it right?
