Cingular and Apple have teamed up - a new motorola cell phone with iTunes is coming. I really want one. I never cared about having a blackberry or a Treo, but a phone with built in iTunes....definitely.

It was detailed in this Motoroloa user manual. [via Gizmodo]

    Oh I want one too! I saw that they are not going to be out for a while, though, which is a big bummer.

    If god wanted you to have a cell phone he would have put one on you! down with all evil cell phones, in fact down with all phones, it is of evil, bin laden and bush told me this, and both are my gods of love.

    Just keep the transmitters (the phone units) away from your EYES. Use a headset today. Radio transmitters and their antennae are not good for your delicate parts.

    Be very careful about the particulars of the phone you purchase through a cell phone company. I recently purchased a Motorola e815, a very nice Motorola phone, through Verizon Wireless. The phone I got from Verizon was very different than the one detailed on Motorola’s website and reviewed by the tech mags. Verizon disabled a lot of the bluetooth and storage functionality to force the end user to make use of their for-fee services. They even went so far as to erase the two dumb little games Motorola packaged with the phone, presumably to force the user to download them from their site for a fee. It is possible to repair the phone if you have enough time and skill, however the simple usb cable needed to do so is mysteriously out of stock through Motorola and Verizon. They will not allow this phone on their network if it is purchased through some other vendor intact, and will remove anyone from their network who has repaired the phone purchased from Verizon.

    Sure, you can suggest a tinfoil hat, you can even wear one. But when this whole generation of cellphone users has a percentage increase in cataracts, don't forget we had this little chat. Ionizing radiation is not exactly nonexistent, and while cataract surgery is wonderful, it is better not to damage your eyes to begin with.

    If these Israelis have observed measurable damage after two weeks of typical exposure (mind you this is a reporters version of their findings) I have to imagine we would have seen a sharp increase in juvenile cataracts over the last decade. Let me turn you on to science’s dirty secret; there is no money for the folks who discover all is well. Be wary of the doomsayers; apply some of that disdain you have for the for-profit sector. After all, if I can’t convince the NIH, NSF, or whomever that there is a significant problem and that I am uniquely qualified to study it, I don’t get paid. Here is an example of some work that made it into Nature through some feeble conjecture and a lot of climate change hysteria. It is solid work, but hardly Nature caliber, and counter to the author’s claims in the abstract, the work does not suggest climate change is causing larger hurricanes; it’s just wild speculation.

Your cynicism does not make the appreciable RF bombarding the rapidly-dividing eye tissues an illusion. The benign acoustic neuromas are fairly well documented. Those occur because of RF insult to the ear, but of course they are not 'dangerous.' Damage to the eyes was comparatively unsuspected, but now that it is considered, it is not hard to design other scienfific studies, and they will be coming along. The RF is there; the tissue is being impacted; and your kind of whistling in the dark is weird and unscientific. For the pioneers, who will take the arrows if not careful, it is prudent to use a HEADSET, and keep the RF transmitter away from their eyes as much as possible.

    Ironic, aint it, that in order to get funding for discovering something you have to announce your discovery in advance. People do get funded for proving that all is well. If you can write a proposal offering a study to prove there is no global warming the floodgates of funding will fill your coffers.

    It's funny that when people who claim to be scientific are down on risk reduction advice. It's far better to drive up the healthcare costs by ignoring avoidable health damage. Ignore all risks -- because studying risks is liberal. Be like the retrogressive Rs -- full speed ahead, damn the studies, like the Iraq Regime Change studies that warned of the quagmire Bush drove the Clown Bus into while bragging about how WONDERFUL he is. Bring it on, just don't bring it on him.
