Horowitz Murder: 16 Year Old Arrested

A 16 year old has been charged with the murder of Pamela Vitale, the wife of lawyer and tv pundit Daniel Horowitz.

I'm glad Dan and his family will have the closure. The funeral is today.

Boy was I wrong. I hate admitting I was a member of the lynch mob. Goes to show what I know. This is horrible.

With all due respect, why is this on national news? Politely I would like to suggest that the personal tragedy of a TV lawyer is, well, personal. The breathless coverage and his very public demeanor have been tasteless for lack of a better word.

I was starting to think he (Mr Horowitz) was guilty of his wifes murder, because of the interviews being given. A courtesy to his pals in the media no doubt but it was not good viewing. I awoke to find my wife gone 10 months ago and the last thing I would've wanted was to do what Mr Horowitz did the last few days. Anyway, sixteen yrs old will get him 5 yrs in Juvee and he'll be back. Can we hope?

Tasteless is a very good, descriptive word. I was appalled at some of Mr. Horowitz's attorney friends going on & on & on about Mr. Lynch while on a couple of shows: Larry King, Dan Abrams. Then, of course, the ever sensational Nancy Grace & that woman from Fox who is now on MSNBC.

I am disappointed, almost shocked, that my friend TL and her readers would immediately presume guilt (particularly of 16 year old) from an arrest.

Hmmm, no mention of the motive here? Interesting....

Patrick, the linked article discusses motive. It's pretty twisted, and it is early in the game. ID theft, wanted money (I know, to grow pot), recover mail sent to that address (weird!). Time will tell

Roger, Thank you, that was my point. Peter G, Ya know, there's no requirement that a person be presumed innocent anywhere but in a court of law. I highly doubt we'll discover otherwise here. Not saying it can't happen, just pretty confident it won't.

Of course there's no "requirement," Patrick. I never suggested there was. What I suggested is that it's a dangerous habit of mind to assume guilt from the fact of an arrest, colored by the facts disclosed to the press by the police at the time. Guess I'm a little gun-shy on this issue from having spent ten years on a court-appointment representing a very guilty-looking guy on death row in Pennsylvania, who happened to turn out (thanks to DNA testing) to be innocent.

Patrick, So somehow marijuana is repsonsible for this crime? If they wanted to simply buy things with the money -- as most thieves do -- would we say "things" are the problem? Of course not. Marijuana continues to be demonized far beyond reason.

Peter G, Don't blame TalkLeft, blame me. I posted on an earlier thread that I thought Horowitz was guilty. TalkLeft disagreed. Don't hold TalkLeft responsible for poster's posts. Rather, applaud them for allowing us to say whatever we want, as long as we don't cuss. I thought he was guilty because I kept watching him on tv saying things and behaving in a manner that were foreign to me and my understanding of how people act under such a circumstance, not that I have any experience under the same circumstance. I guess my guilty judgement was based upon my expectaton of how I would imagine a victim to act under such a circumstance, and I was wrong. Horowitz's behavior came across as very bizarre to me. Maybe it's a secret that only defense attorneys have been privy to up until now. Maybe Horowitz's willingness to step before the cameras so quickly after his wife's murder has opened new territory. How does an innocent person act? I guess there's no pat answer.

Patrick, The latest reports describe this kid as a satanist. I guess that you could blame religion for the murder. Or, you could say that this kid was majorly F-ed up.

You see what happens when you let immigrants into the country...Wait...oh, he's American? Never mind. You see what happens you let these black people...oh, the kid's white? Never mind. You see what happens when...hey, who else can we blame this on?
