Fitzgerald Meets With Judge, No Announcement Today

Update: Dan Froomkin of the Washington Post wrote today:

Broadcast journalists are reporting that there will be no public announcement today. But one popular rumor is that Fitzgerald will indeed present indictments to his grand jury today, the jury will vote on them -- and then he will put everything under seal, pending a public announcement tomorrow.

Even if he seals everything, Fitzgerald would have to take any indictments returned by the grand jury to a judge today. And he would be accompanied by his grand jury foreperson. So keep an eye out for that. Also keep an eye out for senior administration officials showing up at the courthouse very, very late at night.

Update: John at Crooks and Liars called Fitzgerald's office (I'll admit to giving him the number) and learned:

I just got off the phone with Fitzgerald's office and the person I talked to was very cordial even after a long, hard day. I was told it would be highly doubtful if anything happened tonight. I asked for permission to print that and was told I could.

Actually, the number is available on the internet, and if I found it, so can other PlameGate obsessives. So please don't e-mail me for it.

Update: CNN tv - There will be no announcement today

CNN (tv) breaking...Fitzgerald met with the Judge for 45 minutes after the grand jury finished meeting today.

What does it mean? Is Fitzgerald reviewing the Indictments with him, working out logistics for the coverage of the Indictments or asking for an extension?

    Aren't you guys the lawyers? Why are you asking US what's happening? Shouldn't you guys (being lawyers) be able to explain all of this to us laymen?

    This is my favorite portion of the Richard Sale article: That Vice President Cheney is at the center of the controversy comes is no surprise. Last Friday, Fitzgerald investigators were talking to Cheney's attorneys, and detailied questionaires, designed to pin down in meticulous sequence what Cheney knew, when he knew it, and what he told his aides,, were delivered to the White House on Monday, these sources said. The probe is far from being at an end. According to this reporter's sources, Fitzgerald approached the judge in charge of the case and asked that a new grand jury be empaneled. The old grand jury, which has been sitting for two years, will expire on October 28. Clearly Fitz needs more GJ time to finish with the Dark Lord. I'm sure he asked for it today.

    If he asks for an extension, does that mean that any indictments related to this round of the Grand Jury will remain sealed until the next round of investigations is complete?

    Well, there's been a lot of traffic lately in various places about Fitz digging into the original, (badly) forged documents that started the whole Niger/yellowcake meme. If Cheney and/or the CIA had some involvement in the creation and dissemination of those things, it would be well beyond the scope of the current GJ to look into, hence the need for a new panel. Eric A has a good question tho - how would that impact any potential indictments from _this_ GJ?

    Jim Leher reports that indictments will be issued on Friday and that Fitzgerald is loathe to impound another grand jury.

    Whatever Fitzgerald has to do to clean up the slime that conned America into a war with Iraq he will do, but I am/was hoping that he would be done on friday. Steve Clemons has this:
    What I have learned is that the Office of the Special Counsel has signed a lease this week for expanded office space across the street at 1401 New York Avenue, NW. Another coincidence? More office space needed to shut down the operation? I think not. Fitzgerald's operation is expanding.
