Waas: Cheney and Libby Blocked Documents From Senate Probe

More big news from Murray Waas at the National Journal:

Cheney and Libby blocked information to the Senate Intelligence Committee investigating pre-war intelligence, in particular, claims that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction:

The new information that Cheney and Libby blocked information to the Senate Intelligence Committee further underscores the central role played by the vice president's office in trying to blunt criticism that the Bush administration exaggerated intelligence data to make the case to go to war.

....The Intelligence Committee at the time was trying to determine whether the CIA and other intelligence agencies provided faulty or erroneous intelligence on Iraq to President Bush and other government officials.

....Had the withheld information been turned over, according to administration and congressional sources, it likely would have shifted a portion of the blame away from the intelligence agencies to the Bush administration as to who was responsible for the erroneous information being presented to the American public, Congress, and the international community.

Update: David Addington may become a key player in this. Murray has lots of information on him over at his blog.

And now it is even clearer what "Mission Accomplished" really meant: • the act of war had been accomplished, initiating the USPNAC plan, AND • the US security situation would be so degraded by this hateful and racist invasion-for-profit, they thought the country would be FORCED to continue it, even if we could remove the dictators who foisted it upon us. If we could install a fiber-optics cable in Bush's nose, we could make trunk calls to Pakistan. Bush Must Resign.

Awwwwwwww snap! Is this the basis for potential conspiracy charges against Big Time himeself? If so, it will be verrrrry entertaining to watch the Repubs in Congress try to rationalize his utter contempt _for Congress itself_.

I think this is a big story...under normal times. But it seems that this is just a small piece of the larger yellowcake uranium/intelligence stove-pipe scandal. And we already know that Pat Roberts is a part of the cover-up for Cheney. My guess. This goes absolutely no where.

The phrase is 'stovepiping,' a term from onion selling. A stovepipe is put in an onion sack, and good onions are put around the outside of the pipe. The inside is filled with the rotten onions, and then the stovepipe is pulled out and the bag tied -- off to market! But it is very bad to leave the stovepipe in the bag of onions. Oops! With Georgie's dry heaves (Miers) and Dickie's pipeful of rotten onions, and Donnie's Folly -- these guys are so toast it would be hard to find a comparison in world history. Which Tinpot Dictator Are You?

    Great. Thanks Paul, I'm Hitler.

I hope it's not catching. It starts with vote-fraud. A legal voting system (and a functioning press) would NEVER empower such criminals. A functioning Senate would punish this kind of a revelation of fraud and concealment with a Resolution of Inquiry. A functioning House would be drawing up impeachment papers for the Vice President.

A couple of points. First of all, if Cheney and Libby withheld intelligence from Congress then this is strong evidence that the decision to go to war by Bush was not based on bad intelligence. They knew that the intelligence did not support the decision. Why else would they withhold intelligence? Second, this wasn't the case of withholding evidence from Congress, but withholding evidence from Congress affecting the decision to go to war. You have to wonder how many Senators and Congressmen of both parties would have voted to support Bush if the evidence hadn't been "fixed". Come to think about it, the Bush administration also withheld this evidence from the American people.
