New Polls: Bush and Iraq Support Sink Lower

Crooks and Liars has the latest on a Gallup-CNN-USA Today Poll out today:

Fewer than one in 10 adults say they would prefer a congressional candidate who is a Republican and who agrees with Bush on most major issues, according to a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll taken Friday through Sunday. Even among Republicans, seven of 10 are most likely to back a candidate who has at least some disagreements with the president.

Bush's job approval rating sank to a record low 37%. The poll finds growing criticism of the president, unease about the nation's direction and opposition to the Iraq war....A record high 60% say going to war in Iraq was "not worth it."

What really saddens me is that there are still 37% of the population that think bush is doing good and wonderful things. The United States has never been in worse shape than it is today under the Bush Administration. We have record high deficits. Our Civil Rights are being eroded or revoked on a regular basis. We have preemptively attacked another Sovereign Nation without provacation based on Lies and Distortions of Facts. Our Federal Law Enforcement Agencies have become almost "Gestapo Like" in their interactions with Citizens, treating us as criminals and requiring us to prove we're innocent and even if we prove our innocence they don't have to let us go! Can we really be so blind or self-centered that we will just sit by and watch the creation of a "Police State" in America and think that it won't apply to us? Is that really what we want?

What is the percent, reddragon, of RACIST BIGOTS who will support any sort of racism and repression, both overseas and at home? I peg it about 25%. So all you are upset about it TWELVE PERCENT who are too stupid or too partisan to understand that the country is being raped. Study some history. The racists from the civil war never went away, just as Nuremburg only punished a few Germans, and the KKK, now the CCC, even fifty years ago used terrorism and murder to stop integration. Matthew Sheppard shows that integration has many sides, which are STILL violently opposed by bigots (including anti-gay). The racists die out, and are dying out. What you are upset about is a COUP. A coup has nothing to do with 'us being blind or self-centered.' It has to do with using electronic and conventional vote-fraud to pack our government in order to overturn our laws and our Constitution. The public is a VICTIM of that treason, not its cause.

Hey Paul, I think that what I'm really upset about is that because of apathy and distrust of the government most Americans do not exercise their voting rights. As a result we wind up living under a sometimes Fanatical Rightwing Government that does not represent or care about Society as a whole. I agree with you totally about stolen elections in 2000 and 2004 and if we continue to use Diebold Voting Machines, the chances of voter fraud are even higher in 2008. I still believe though that if voting participation was in the 70-80% range instead of the 15-30% range as it tends to be now we could actually demand Government accountability and lesson the damage of Voter Fraud. I am well aware of the violent history Prejudice and Bigotry have caused throughout the world both in the past and today. My comments about "Society as a whole" being "self-centered" and "blind" as to what is going on, concerns us allowing the Government to restrict and/or revoke some of our "core" Civil Rights without making much effort to stop it. We allow whole segments of our citizens to be persecuted and demeaned without hardly any protest. I think the reasons for this "disinterest" in Government accountability is because it hasn't really inconvenienced us personally yet and we tend to rationalize it by saying it really doesn't affect us since we are not Terrorists. We don't seem to really accept that living under a "Police State" will affect us all not just the ones presently in the Government's crosshairs. The more we sit back and let the Government run roughshod over the Constitution the more the Government will take from us. We are allowing the United States to be molded into a Fascist Police State by allowing Corporations to control the Legislative and Executive Branches. I think President Franklin D. Roosevelt had it right when he said
"The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to the point where it becomes stronger than the democratic state itself. That in its essence is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group or any controlling private power.":
If we do not take back control of our Government while this change is still unstable we may find it much harder to throw off the "Yoke of Fascism" this time around. We only become victims by allowing this corruption of our Basics Principles of Democracy to continue unabated. I firmly believe we still have the power to save the Republic from ruin if we would just organize and do it. We have to remember that what James Madison said in the Federalist #47
The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny."
are just as true today as when they were written. We have a "sacred" responsiblity to protect Freedom and Democracy in America or learn to live under a Dictatorship. The choice, as always, is ours. I just hope we make the right one.

Yeah, a lot of that is true, but you aren't factoring in the attempted vote in 2004, which was GIGANTIC compared to past years. They are disenfranchizing millions, not just stealing the vote result. Voting participation, which you say is your main complaint, is USELESS without voter education, something else that the muffled media has removed from its duties. And this group 'we' is just a canard. WE do not just sit back and let it all happen. Millions of us struggle. I think you have your telescope turned around. WE have NEVER had the freedoms you claim we have lost. 'Parchment barriers' will not protect us. We have fought for our freedoms, and we will still have to fight for our freedoms, long after Bush is gone. The 'choice' is already made, and the battlelines are drawn. The right has exposed themselves, yet again, and profited handsomely, but they have exposed their essential evil. We are up against an evolutionary gradient, and that's just how it is for animals. Put your shoulder to the weight that can't be moved, and push -- and feel it budge under ALL our shoulders pushing. We shall overcome.
