Say Hello: Torture is Not Us

Say hello to Torture Is Not Us by American Progress (hoster of the excellent blog Think Progress), an action site to support the John McCain anti-torture amendment.

One crucial consideration: If the McCain Amendment passes, it must include the CIA. Like the Graham-Levin amendment on detainees, it is part of a larger 2006 military spending package. Bush and Cheney have threatened vetoes if the McCain Amendment passes in a form that excludes the CIA.

I'm not sure I can support the McCain Amendment with the Levin-Graham amendment as part of the package. Particularly, because as I wrote here, no habeas for them could become precedent for no habeas for us, as early as tomorrow, when the Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hold its second hearing on the dreadfulStreamlined Procedures Act.

McCain was GIVEN this fake controversy so he can run in 2008. That grotesque bodyclasping hug at the 2004 convention is AFTER the Abu Ghraib (et al) scandals. • McCain was hugging a torturer. And now he 'opposes' torture. Well, what a damn surprise -- the whole country opposes torture, with the exception of the people who are fervently hugging Bush like a hundred Eva Brauns.

Yes welcome to torture-free democracy in Iraq. Nice work Monkey Boy. Nothing, NOTHING has changed for these people, except maybe for the ethnic face of the victims.

Torture is not US, but apparently lying about the use of incendiary ordinance on a civilian population IS us. "The US initially said white phosphorus had been used only to illuminate enemy positions, but now admits it was used as a weapon." Thay probably misunderestimated the question.

Genocide used to be easier, before they invented the word genocide and got Ronald Reagan to stand up and sign it before the whole world. And now look. To quote Ron Reagan, "My dad shat bigger ones than George W. Bush."
