Blake to Pay $30M in Civil Damages

by TChris

Like O.J., Robert Blake didn't fare as well before a civil jury as he did in his criminal prosecution.

Eight months after Robert Blake was acquitted at a criminal trial of murdering his wife, a civil jury decided Friday the tough-guy actor was behind the slaying, and ordered him to pay her children $30 million in damages.

This is the quintessential response to CSN's "Love the one you're with"....

i realize the standard of proof is less in civil trials, but the fact that a person is acquitted in a criminal trial must have some bearing in it. also, i know evidenciary standards are laxer in civil matters, but i didn't hear or see of any great revelation in the civil action, that hadn't already been brought out in the criminal one. this is another one of those "someone must pay for this, and in the absence of anyone else, you'll do." cases. i'd be curious to know how they decided on $30 mill, since ms. blakely wouldn't have ever been worth that in several lifetimes.

i just read that whole article. my god, what a fraudulent verdict, by a bunch of morons! they disliked him on the stand, where he was questioned for 8 days! geez, i'd be combative too, if i had to be in the witness chair for that long. let me see, what else? oh yeah, christian brando took the 5th, but that apparently didn't register with these nincompoops. i hope he appeals, and gets this ridiculous verdict overturned. he was just as entitled to a fair civil trial as a fair criminal trial. based on the jury forman's comments, it doesn't seem as though he got one.
