Ohio's Pending Patriot Act

In the "your papers please" category this week, we have the Ohio Patriot Act that is sitting on Gov. Taft's desk waiting for his approval.

The lengthy piece of legislation would let police arrest people in public places who will not give their names, address and birth dates, even if they are not doing anything wrong.

Why would the terrorists even want to attack Ohio? First, what's in that state that would make any kind of statement? Second, parts of Ohio, when it comes to the morality police, are already close enough to Islamo-fascism to please the terrorists.

This must be exactly what Peter G meant by eager state legislators cutting constitutional corners.

Nothing like a state terrified of its own citizens. So much for a civil society. We're ALL suspects.

Are we suspects or "persons of interest"?

Dadler: We're ALL suspects. It wasn't me. Of course, that's only because I didn't think of it. I'd be guilty as hell if I had. But, I was nowhere near the place. Honest! In fact, I have an ironclad alibi. I was on the other side of town. What was it they're afraid I might do, again?

Why would the terrorists even want to attack Ohio? Pete Guither: It doesn't matter. Wherever you go in America, no matter how remote or small the town, locals will swear that it's a likely terrorist target. "We have a dam! There's an Air Force base not 200 miles from here! And the border's only a couple of states away!" For reasons that escapes me, they will get really mad if you suggest they needn't worry. It's a matter of civic pride.

Every woman in Ohio is going to be thrilled with having to give out their birthdate. For no reason? I will have to wear my t-shirt there. the one that says I didn't do it. You can't prove it. Nobody saw me. The sheep are lying.

Why would the terrorists even want to attack Ohio?
to show that they can and will attack at any time and any place. The point of the terrorisme we face today is to terrorize by intimidation. They will do these sorts of things not to make a statement against the US and not necessarily to kill anyone in particular, but to try to convince people that they're never safe. We used to see roadside bombs all the time in iraq that were in the middle of absolutely nowhere. Same reason. We have to let em know that there are those of us out there that know what signs to look for to recognize them and we'll kick ther a$$. F#!@ em. When we bust their a$$ and keep them from executing their plans they'll start realizing that its not working.

It's time to dig out, dust off, and begin using my secret decoder ring once again, unless they took it while I was out.

Here's my latest theory. The extremist right decides to test the waters to see how much the American public can take. So they put all sorts of crazy repressive stuff out there and measure the reaction, see what sticks, what gets accepted just because folks are too tired or distracted to fight, and what gets thrown out on its rear. Then this gives them the info they need to strategize the next round of pushing the neocon agenda.

Lora, I think you're on to something there. A single news cycle can barely keep up with the latest outrages. (Of course the news cycle will concentrate on a kidnapped white woman or a burning building or a downed small plane;-)

Terrorists have already attacked Ohio, their leader is sitting in the governor's mansion, and his operatives are in police stations all over the state.
