Wendy Chili Finger Scam Artists Sentenced to 12 and 9 Years

The husband and wife team who faked finding a finger in a bowl of Wendy's chili were sentenced today to 12 and 9 years, respectively.

I'd bet they'd give up a finger of their own to undo their deed.

Minor detail, the husband was sentenced to only 9 years for chili-related misdeeds, plus:
...another three years and four months for not paying support for the five children he has with another woman in an unrelated case...
    Plus restitution:
[Judge] Davila also ordered the couple to pay almost $22 million in restitution but Wendy's officials indicted to the court they would only seek to collect approximately $170,000, representing the wages lost by employees at the San Jose restaurant where working hours were cut back after a downturn in business.

I'd bet they'd give up a finger of their own... They're probably blaming Wendy's for their situation now. I imagine they're not the kind of people who are accountable or take responsibility, or they wouldn't have done it in the first place. I do think the sentences are excessive though.

That was my first thought, too, but it's only about two minutes per dollar of damage to Wendy's. Not even considering harm to its employees and customers (who maybe ate a salad instead and thus should be grateful, but whatever).

How much time will dubya do if he's convicted of "high crimes and misdemeanors", huh?

Are you saying she bit off more than she could chew?

No Justice, No Piece! I thought that one up myself, and here, thanks to technorati, are some from others: Judge gives the Finger to Chili Finger Scammers. No. 2 - A Steaming Hot Bowl of Justice Serves them right

Seems a bit excessive to me...I could see if they were able to pull off the scam, but it failed. Sometimes being a knucklehead is punishment enough. A year or two would have served as enough of a deterent. I mean, the Enron crew won't do this much time and they pulled off their scam!
