Tax Dollars At Work

by TChris

It's no longer quite so much fun to be an undercover cop (or a cop under the covers) for the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's office.

A Virginia sheriff said Friday he will no longer allow detectives to receive sexual services while investigating suspected prostitution after they spent $1,200 at massage parlors last month and sparked a public outcry.

The detectives spent so much, according to the sheriff, because it takes "multiple visits" to "build trust" with the massage parlor employees. Not to mention the $350 tip that one detective left after a particularly satisfying undercover experience.

gosh, i just have to revel in the hypocrisy shown by everyone, from you to the wp and nyt, regarding this. spare me the self-righteous twaddle. undercover narcs do it all the time, only with drugs, not sex. the difference? well, um, uh, well..............it's sex! per the wp editorial page, that makes all the difference: state law allows narcs to engage in illegal acts, as part of covert operations, but not vice cops. actually, the law says nothing whatever regarding the propriety of undercover vice cops engaging in illegal acts, in the course of performing their duties, it only addresses the narcs. the absence of any direct comment, regarding vice, could be construed as an ok. or not. prove to me otherwise. actually, as i think about it, undercover police, of any type, routinely engage in illegal acts, in the normal performance of their duties, all over the country. again, what makes this special is that it involved sex. so what?

Gosh, the sacrifices our men in uniform make, it brings a tear to my eye in a way no godless liberal will ever understand. Never Forget.

This just blows my mind (no pun intended). Getting hummers whilst on the gov't dime, sounds like grounds for impeachment to me...

And why aren't these officers under arrest for soliciting again? Or can I go to a rub-n-tug joint and claim to be gathering evidence? When the cop gets serviced, or does dope...isn't that entrapment? Needless to say I'm very confused.

I should add I have no problem with the men in blue enjoying a good "massage"...just use your own money. Don't use the state's money and then arrest the poor girl trying to make a living. Now, if this parlor was using girls against their will, throw the book at the owners for kidnapping and slavery...but leave the poor girls alone.

again, this is any different, other than that it involves sex, from any other undercover operation, where the police engage in illegal acts, as part of their evidence gathering, exactly how? gee, they use tax dollars to buy drugs, illegal weapons, pay bribes, etc. either none of these activities should be condoned and paid for, with our tax dollars, or they should all be treated equally, you can't have it both ways. well, you can, just admit you're a hypocrite.

Well, I suppose the $350 question is if all their activities were really necessary.
