Dubai Port Company to Relinquish U.S. Holdings

Breaking: The Washington Post reports:

The United Arab Emirates company that was attempting to take over management operations at six U.S. ports announced today that it will divest itself of all American interests.

Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) announced on the Senate floor shortly before 2 p.m. that Dubai Ports World would "transfer fully the operations of U.S. ports to a U.S. entity." Warner, who had been trying to broker a compromise on the issue, said DP World would divest itself of U.S. interests "in an orderly fashion" so as not to suffer "economic loss."

I would love to know what went on during all the negotiations among Bush-Congress-DP-Other entities. I hope somebody gets that story to us.

Either Karl, or Jim Baker, or somebody, saw the handwriting on the wall-- that this was going to ugly for Junior-- and made the phone call to the UAE. The Emir of Dubai... saving George W. Bush from himself. Pity no one is saving anyone else from him.

This ain't over. This is still going to stink like a week old corpse in the Juarez sun.

A "U.S. entity", eh? Would that be a P.O. box in Delaware, maybe? But of course it's all about form, not substance.

I predict they are just going to wait until something shiny distracts congress and the press and then do nothing.

The xenophobes in this country need to be double dosing on their lithium this week. I hope they ask Jack Cafferty what he thinks of this move by the UAE.

I wonder if Dubai Ports World told anyone in congress or the WH about this decision, maybe like 2 days ago? This whole "GOP revolt" may have been staged.
