Karl Rove Says No to Iraq Troop Withdrawal

Speaking at a fundraiser in Ohio, Karl Rove told those assembled Bush will not pull troops out of Iraq until we've won the war.

Abandoning Iraq now would signal to U.S. allies that America can't be trusted, Rove said. "Tyrants in the Middle East would laugh at our failed resolve," he said. "To retreat before victory would be a reckless act."

On the NSA warrantless surveillance program, Rove went for the fear factor:

"President Bush believes that if al-Qaida is calling someone inside the United States, we should know who they are calling and what they are saying," he said.

So, someone from Pakistan/Afghanistan is going to call someone in the US and discuss an attack on the US and have no clue their conversation is being monitored? At what point do we get around to discussing the real reason for the eavesdropping?

Apparently, the current justification of staying in Iraq is the perservation of White House egos.

I don't recall seeing this shmendrik's name on the ballot. I did not vote for him and I didn't have the opportunity to vote against him. Given his many splendored lies and deceits, why does he still hold even the most low-level Government Clearance?

"Abandoning Iraq now would signal to U.S. allies that America can't be trusted"...Karl Rove
So the way that you build trust is by lying to our allies and to the American people about the existence of WMDs and Al Queda ties. The way you build trust is through an unprovoked attack against another sovereign country. Seems like a strange way to build trust. Maybe other countries don't trust the US is because they don't trust George Bush. This is an administration that couldn't care less about the opinion of other countries yet now they want to use world opinion as a justification for the occupation. If the purpose of staying in Iraq is to ensure that other countries trust us then the war is indeed truly over.

I remember back in the Clinton days, people complained about the "co-president" arrangement with Hilary. Isn't Karl kinda doing the same thing? Heck, you'd think the Republicans would be up in arms over this one, since Bill and Hilary were technically married.

Scar, I doubt that Karl is anywhere as good as Monica. Ahem... But he does seem to make up for with frequency, like some bush supporters here.

I think you've made that abundantly clear to them already.

charlie, Its not the US, its George Bush. Why should our allies trust Bush when even the majority of the American people and those in the military don't?

Why should our allies trust Bush when even the majority of the American people and those in the military don't? Creating a political and social climate that causes the US to remove it's military from Iraq would in fact probably do more to signal to U.S. allies that America, it's people, can be trusted after all than anything else.

    I agree with Bush
President Bush believes that if al-Qaida is calling someone inside the United States, we should know who they are calling and what they are saying
We should do more than know who they are calling and what they are saying. These people need to be dealt with - that is why Bush and his minions should get WARRANTS. Its clear that they are eavesdropping on "their" enemies and not "our" enemies.
