Dick Cheney Says He'll Serve Out His Term

Dick Cheney was on Face the Nation today.

Cheney chuckled when asked if he himself had ever considered resigning amid low poll numbers and suggestions by commentators that he was a liability for the administration.

"It's been a highlight of my career to be a part of this administration," he said. "I've now been elected to a second term, and I'll serve out my term."

Cheney also said no one has suggested to him that he resign. And, he's back to joking about his shooting accident:

Calling the circumstances unusual, the vice president quipped, "It's probably the first time the Secret Service ever had to worry about a protectee shooting somebody else instead of being shot at."

He ruled out a run for President and pooh-poohed recent polls showing Bush tanking in the polls.

The full transcript is here. I guess the only good news is that Cheney's tenure is <a The fu

"It's been a highlight of my career to be a part of this administration," he said. You can reach any heights, if you keep your standards low enough. CONELRAD, OK (IWR News Satire) Vice President Dick Cheney denied today that he recently had a lobotomy to curb his increasingly violent antisocial behavior.

The man himself said that the day he shot that lawyer was the worst day of his life. And he's already joking around about it?

    money quote from the article:
"I made sure both in 2000 and 2004 that the president had other options. I mean, I didn't ask for this job. I didn't campaign for it. I got drafted,"
Makes sense, I mean after 5 deferments during VN nobody could dodge the draft forever ... right!? Well, unless they lied yet again:
In the spring of 2000, Cheney's two worlds--commerce and politics-- merged. Halliburton allowed its C.E.O. to serve simultaneously as the head of George W. Bush's Vice-Presidential search committee. At the time, Bush said that his main criterion for a running mate was "somebody who's not going to hurt you." Cheney demanded reams of documents from the candidates he considered. In the end, he picked himself--a move that his longtime friend Stuart Spencer recently described, with admiration, as "the most Machiavellian f[***]ing thing I've ever seen."
    It gets worse:
One man who was especially pleased by Cheney's candidacy was Ahmed Chalabi, the Iraqi dissident who was the leading proponent of overthrowing Saddam Hussein. Cheney had come to know Chalabi through conservative circles in Washington. "I think he is good for us," Chalabi told a U.P.I. reporter in June, 2000.

Why should he resign, when all of the other Bush cronies who are so incompetent will be allowed to stay ?

The Editors' regular Saturday-night poker game with Dick Cheney, 6/19/04. Start tape at 12:32 AM. The Editors: We'll take three cards. Dick Cheney: Give me one. Sounds of cards being placed down, dealt, retrieved, and rearranged in hand. Non-commital noises, puffing of cigars. TE: Fifty bucks. DC: I'm in. Show 'em. TE: Two pair, sevens and fives. DC: Not good enough. TE: What do you have? DC: Better than that, that's for sure. Pay up. TE: Can you show us your cards? DC: Sure. One of them's a six. TE: You need to show all your cards. That's the way the game is played. Colin Powell: Ladies and gentlemen. We have accumulated overwhelming evidence that Mr. Cheney's poker hand is far, far better than two pair. Note this satellite photo, taken three minutes ago when The Editors went to get more chips. In it we clearly see the back sides of five playing cards, arranged in a poker hand. Defector reports have assured us that Mr. Cheney's hand was already well advanced at this stage. Later, Mr. Cheney drew only one card. Why only one card? Would a man without a strong hand choose only one card? We are absolutely convinced that Mr. Cheney has at least a full house. Tim Russert: Wow. Colin Powell really hit a homerun for the Administration right there. A very powerful performance. My dad played a lot of poker in World War 2, and he taught me many things about life. Read my book. TE: He's extremely good at Power Point. But we would like to see the cards, or else we can't really be sure he has anything to beat two pair. We don't think he would lie to us, but ... well, it is a very rich pot. Jonah Goldberg: Liberal critics of Mr. Cheney's poker hand contend that "he doesn't have anything". Oh, really, liberal critics? Cheney has already showed them the six of clubs, and yet these liberals persist in saying he has "nothing". Why do liberals consider the six of clubs to be "nothing"? Is it because the six of clubs is black? More...

edger - Cute. BTW - I note your quote is from June 2004. I seem to remember that along about then Bush was on the ropes and the Left was predicting a smashing Kerry victory.

I don't know where this clown gets his reputation for sound advice from. He's been wrong about everything right on down the line since these jerks seized power. Everything.
