Late Night Music Club

This is the first edition of TalkLeft's Late Night Music Club which I am shamelessly stealing (with permission) from John Amato at Crooks and Liars, who is a very accomplished musician in his own right. I am not. My selections will be performances I can watch over and over, either because I love the music or the words or because I just love watching the face of someone in the band.

I may not do it every night, but since YouTube is a becoming a new addiction, I hope to make it a regular thing. Feel free to use the comments to talk about your own favorite music.

Tonight's pick is the Goo Goo Dolls playing Iris and (Tom Petty's) American Girl at the 9/11/2001 Concert for New York City. I remember taping it at the time, and watching their version of American Girl over and over.

Update: Video removed from You Tube.

TL, I had a late night last Sat night watching Dave Alvin. Not nearly as famous as the Goo Goo Dolls, but he is playing in your 'hood soon:
SA 07.22.06 Bluebird Theatre w/ The Guilty Men Denver, CO
    He's the real deal.

American Girl is one of my favorite songs. Thanks. A friend sent me this recently: Eric Clapton on the Johnny Cash Show with Carl Perkins (be sure to watch it to the end . . . .) It just about blew my mind. Cheers!

Great idea. It works well at C&L. It's a nice respite from pouring over the mountains of news, data, fantastic grassroots editorials, and occaisional wild threads that we all seem to be hooked on. For anyone who cares, the best way to view the videos, for me anyway, is to start it up, turn down the volume, minimize it or open another window, and let it play once. Then bring it back up and play it again (vol up of course). You won't get the pauses that happen on the first viewing. JM, I also think you should continue to have one daily open thread. It also reduces OT comments on other threads. Just saying. OTW (off to work)

The original Philly Jo Jones was an incredibly talent drummer. The link takes you (with one stop) to a video of a drum solo that is well worth watching...
