Joe Lieberman Files to Start New Party

In keeping with his intention of petitioning his way on the ballot if Ned Lamont wins the August 8 Connecticut primary, Joe Lieberman filed papers today to start his own party: Connecticut for Lieberman.

Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz said Lieberman will be able to secure a higher position on the November ballot by creating a new party rather than petitioning his way on as an individual. Bysiewicz said Lieberman would be fifth on the ballot under the new party, compared with eighth or ninth as an individual.

He must collect 7,500 signatures by 4 p.m. Aug. 9, the day after the primary.

I'd like to start a pool on how long it takes for the Dems to split into two parties. Me, I'm betting on 2009, same as always, right after the '06 and '08 losses; so far, so good.

Yeah, flag burning, gay marriage hysteria, Gas at $6 a gallon, and Four More Wars will drive at least one Canadian chickenhawk further into the arms of the rethugs, but what about American Democrats?

I guess if you're going to start your own party, you might as well name it after yourself.

Oh Jondee, you sweet-talking harmless little devil, you. I predict '09 for the Dems to split (i.e. a serious 3rd party will form on the Left from a diaspora of Kos-ish Dems). Sounds like you're predicting it ain't gonna happen at all, then? Pls confirm and then come 2010 YOU can have the bragging rights. [Unless you agree with me about '09, that is] Till then, as you undoubtedly recall, this was my call for '04: Bush : 51% Kerry: 48% For actual results, well, see above. Dems will more or less break even in '06, nothing spectacular either way, and then lose in '08 and the party will split. Your turn.

The dem's won't split. They may have a change in the wing that has control, but rather than split, the dems will simply see the more extreme portion of the party stay home. Since we're predicting, no significant change come November, 2008 depends on who the GOP runs, the dems will not offer anything new.

BigTex: Who are your good vs. bad GOP candidates in '08? In other words, who has a good chance to win, OK chance and no chance?

BigTex, The Kossacks are the roommates from hell; it's only a matter of time till the rest of the party either boots them out, or marginalizes them till they leave to pursue their godhood on their own. Come the day, they will receive inordinate MSM and Academic support; not enough to win, but enough to be serious 3rd party that can split the vote. I pick '09 for the event. Agree w/you on everything else you said.

Whats with Lieberman? His opponent, Ned Lamont, has said that if he loses the Democratic primary he will support Lieberman. Lieberman, on the other hand, is acting like a sore loser before the election has even been run. Why does Lieberman want to start his own party when doing so only helps Republicans? We have seen what single party control of the House and Senate under the misleadership of George Bush have done to this country. Democrats are in the best position in years to regain control of one of the houses and provide a check and balance against unchecked executive power. Unfortunately, Lieberman can't put the interests of our country ahead of his own inflated ego.

John Horse, Lieberman, like all politicians has a very large ego and so thinks he is the best man for the job. Ned Lamont is just a rich guy who likes the attention he's getting from the far-Left. Odd how everyone on the far Left admired Bernie Sanders when he left the Repubs and became an 'independent' and called him a brave man for his stance. Lieberman does the same and he's a villian. I'll say again that it is hypocritical.

Lieberman does the same and he's a villian. Actually, jimcee, Lieberman hasn't left the Democrats, or he wouldn't be eligible to run in a Democratic primary. Got any other fact-free assertions to peddle tonight? The problem here is that Lieberman is attempting to have his cake and eat it too, by running in the Democratic primary and then attempting to get on the ballot in case the majority of the voters in said primary vote against him. Lamont said he'll accept the results of the primary and back whoever wins, why can't Lieberman make that promise as well?
