At the time of his heart attack - his third - Lay had severe
three-vessel coronary artery disease, with more than 75 percent blockage in three arteries, according to the autopsy report prepared by Dr. Robert A. Kurtzman of Grand Junction.
....Prior to the heart attack, Mr. Lay had woken up at about 1 a.m., and had a brief talk with his wife Linda before going to the bathroom. Lay's wife discovered him in an unresponsive state on the floor in the bathroom after she heard a "thump," the report says.
"He had vomited and had brief seizure like-activity. 911 was called and life support initiated and continued until the arrival of EMS. The decedent was transported to Aspen Valley Hospital where he was reported dead," the report says. "Prior to his collapse the decedent did not report any chest pains, nausea or shortness of breath, but had recently been experiencing upper gastrointestinal symptoms for which he was taking medication."
Will this put the conspiracy theorists to bed?
Joe DiSalvo, chief of investigations for the sheriff's office, said Wednesday that the department has been bombarded with calls from people about Lay's death.
DiSalvo said a reporter from Alaska called Kurtzman about Lay's death, challenging him to take a lie detector test to prove that he had actually seen Lay's body. DiSalvo said he hopes the release of the autopsy puts the rumors to rest, but he didn't appeared convinced that it would.
Lay was cremated, said DiSalvo, adding that he does not know where the remains are.
