Lambert at Corrente outlines how the Republicans plan to take Iraq off the table for the 2008 election. How? With the help of James Baker and a new working group called the Iraq Study Group-- that reportedly has Bush's blessing.

    i don't buy the whole idea of "taking iraq off the table in 2008" meme. remember these are fantasists, clowns, rank reprobates. james baker is a comtemptible fascist pig. they keep forgetting about the second law of thermodynamics. and b/c of that their efforts will ultimately FAIL. it's not easy trying to hide the corpse of a rotting elephant. especially one that has how many BBL of oil beneath it?

    It's only off the table if the opposition party lets it be. So what if they make this grand plan and deal across party lines? What does that change about HISTORY? Only a hopelessly unimaginative person would think this takes it off the table. The repsonse of the opposition must still be "Your failures are not transformed by this one desperate act, they are merely more instensely highlighted as such. That FIVE YEARS LATER you FINALLY thought it wise to BE wise in this situation, well, thanks and don't let the door hit you on the way OUT. The idea that we'll trust you again with OTHER things, well, it'd be laughable if it weren't so unbelievable." I mean, come on, if another party causes harm to you, then pays you a little settlement, is that going to erase the harm and make you trust that same party?

    For once I am glad there is a group of people trying to figure out wtf is wrong and how to fix it. Wolf's creation of this group can't do any harm at this point. The group is made up of Dem's and Repubes..sure, its probably stacked with Repubes..but it can't be worse than the nimrods running the show now and I like Sandra Day O'Connor. We need moderate voices..centrists.

    If--and it's a very big if--Baker can forge a consensus plan on what to do about Iraq among the bigwigs on his commission, many of them leading foreign-policy figures in the Democratic Party, then the 2008 Democratic presidential nominee--whoever he (or she) is--will have a hard time dismissing the plan.
    Are you kidding me? The Democratic nominee won't waste a second of time on James Baker's attempt to whitewash the Iraq catastrophe. Consensus committee my foot. The blood is in the water, and the Republicans will pay a heavy price for their complicity in George Bush's imperialistic fantasy.

    They are going to make you forget about Iraq by bombing Iran. You think Cheney give's a rat's a@@ about Baker or anyone else. At this point it should be clear that Bush is the rube they put out front. They dont even tell him whats going on sometimes for the sake of plausable denial ability.

    Don't trust them. Their party affiliations are meaningless at this point. They are enablers who want to end the war but keep the strategic resources. That's the agenda. It will only feed anti-american sentiment. How many are also CEO's and defense industry or security industry "consultants"? And nothing goes down in these groups without Cheney's approval.

    I can't bring myself to care. Why we suffer with these parties is beyond me. It's time to rid our country of this scourge and force people to think for themselves. Ban all political parties.

    Bush 43 has so far kept the 41 circle at arm's length including Baker. But with the situation in Iraq sliding towards irretrievable chaos, a moment of receptivity may have arrived. That's hopeful. Baker must confront the president "like the way a family confronts an alcoholic. You bring everyone in, and you say, 'Look, my friend, it's time to change.'" Put him in lockdown.
