Becoming Fearless

Speaking of fear-mongering (see post below), check out Huffington Post's new page, Becoming Fearless.

Among the many well-written articles on the page: Arianna's take on Bush: "Why We Need an Epidemic of Fearlessness to Counter the Fearmonger-in-Chief"

President Bush made another stop on his Fall of Fear Tour Monday, delivering a thunderingly obvious speech in which he repeatedly, strenuously, and desperately tried to convince us of something we're already convinced of -- that terrorists are not nice people. Thanks for the heads up, Mr. President. What's next, a compelling argument that fire is hot? That K-Fed can't sing? The question in 2006 isn't whether terrorists are evil; it's what is the most effective way to fight them. A hint: it isn't staying the course in Iraq.

I agree 110%, that's all they do now is try and scare people. They build these eloborate 3 headed monsters for us to have nightmares about so people continue to be faithful to the GOP.

I call this his his 'line in the sand' speech. In fact, it sounds and looks like a declaration of war against the Islam. In all of our names no less. A real Texas showdown. A fight to the death. Bush's Alamo. This town aint big enough for the two of us. This is a man on mission from his God to defeat the emissaries of a competing God. I found it extremely scary to watch. May someone's God protect us from this man.

The other thing that's going on with these speeches by Bush, Rumsfeld, and friends is to accuse all the rest of us of Nazism, to protect Bush, Rumsfeld, and friends against charges of quasi-Nazism. We should remember that Rove does this sort of thing again and again ('swiftboating'), and we should remember that Bush, Rumsfeld, and friends know they can be charged with crimes for which one can (in theory) be sentenced to execution.

And calling Bush a fascist that wants to steal away American's civil rights is not fear mongering. The 'Repubs playing the lottery with your social security' 'back-alley abortions''Goldwater, Reagan and Bush gonna get us blown up' Left really oughta drop the John Wayne bravado. It is undeserved.

If Bush and his Iranian twin represent God...I should look into satanism.

Of course, the really terrifying thing is that that the most loyal part of his base is made up of Rapturists hoping for the Apocalypse...and believe that he is the guy that will "bring it on".

Fearless. an interesting concept for certain. it has many qualifiers, many ramifications Steve Irwin was fearless, on the surface, the face we saw. Can't think of anyone quite like that. We certainly don't have anyone in our governement that could rank with him. fearless, to act, think and be what you choose? or are you under the thumb of the machine that rules most of your life? Do you deny the existence of anything that can help you magically? Do you fight on your own to win your battles? this is a relative term that people must understand to their own degree. some know what it is like to have the gun pointed at them, the bullet whistle by. It changes future thought, I can tell you. I wasn't what I was before it. we have levels and degrees of fortitude as humans. we have motivators that may dictate a response unknown before the introduction of the motivation but it is hard to talk about, except as we view others. But then we place values on others that are unrealistic, because they are our values. fearless. act. think. proclaim. march. work never give up your ideals, for it is what makes you. trade, adapt, but never give up. be fearless, do it. I put it to all, our leaders are cowardly folks, our congress, our legislative, our executive. their only real fear is not being re elected, so they spend all of their time on this pursuit, not what we asked them to do. I have fear. fear of people that believe in magic. If find that 95% of the folks I meet think magic rules their existence. this has caused me to draw the conclusion that we are simple people, limited by a lack of education and values. primitive has always been something we claim of that which we are more comfortable believing is beneath us. it shows us for what we are

A hint: it isn't staying the course in Iraq. OK...so what is it then? The left is very keen on critisizm..but not too keen on a "plan". Ernesto.... Of course, the really terrifying thing is that that the most loyal part of his base is made up of Rapturists hoping for the Apocalypse. NO,,, the REAL terrifying thing is that the rest of you can't see the forest for the trees. Doing nothing about radical Islam's quest to take over the world is what will bring on the Apocalypse!

    1) tell us what bush's plan is? 2) Dems do have a plan, ask Murtha, ask Kerry, hell even some repubs have a plan, ask Shays. The only one w/o a plan is bushco.

Sailor... tell us what bush's plan is? It should be obvious to you by now? The plan is to kick terrorist ass! Which we are (and have been) doing quite well. Dems do have a plan, ask Murtha Yeah...cut & run ask Kerry Yeah ... cut & run. This is a 'plan' to you????

That's just a stupid slogan, now tell us what bush's plan is.
Which we are (and have been) doing quite well.
Iraq is in civil war, afghanistan is being retaked by the taliban, Pakistan just signed a treaty with the taliban and folks like you are cheering for torture, murder, secret prisons and war crimes.

It's working so well too. Lets count 'em up for BB. 2,819 Americans were killed in the WTC on 9/11. As of Sept. 07/06 2,663 Americans have died in Iraq as a result of bush's illegal invasion and occupation. Yep... kickin' terrist arse is working so well it's effectively doubled the number of Americans who have now died as a direct result of bush's so-called 'war on terror'. In other words, the more people bushco kills in the ME the more they retaliate, and the more Americans die. Hell... now there's a "plan" if I ever saw one. But then, if BB and his buddies are happy because it gives them wargasms and lets them cheer for bush while he 'kicks more terrist arse' who am I to argue with such finely tuned logic. How many more dead will be enough for him, I wonder?
If the American people DO tolerate such an insane strategy, then they clearly do not deserve to survive as a nation or a people. more...
