Moving Days

I'm moving my house Monday and Tuesday. I'm only going 1/2 block but it's still a huge ordeal, not to mention I'll be without high speed internet, cable tv and telephone service for a few days.

I do have a laptop with WWAN that allows me to connect without a hotspot, so I'll be logging on to push any stuck comments through, but my content may be light. TChris and Big Tent Democrat may stop in, so check back.

Have I mentioned how much I hate moving?

Old Southern saying - "Three movings is like a burning." Good luck!

Hopefully you sold in the real estate bubble and you will be renting for a few years until prices drop.

Well, best wishes, and remember that the value of change is the opportunity to make things better, so I hope it runs ut that way for you.

I hate moving too. I once moved from a down stairs apartment to one up stairs and the only thing I was thankful for was that I didn't have to rent a truck. Moving is one of the most stressful things we do, no matter how close the move is. Then, of course, there is the unpacking! Hope all goes smoothly. Take a few minutes for yourself today, you deserve the break!

jeralyn, i feel your pain! good luck. the best thing that can be said about moving, regardless of the reason for it, is that it gives you a great opportunity to get rid of all that stuff you've allowed to pile up around the house. i'm sure there's something else positive to say for it, i just can't think of it at the moment. lol good luck!

Two suggestions, make an appointment for a massage on Wednesday and have a hot fudge sundae on your way to the appt.

Ok. Here come the moving nightmares. I moved 7 times the first ten years I was married. Many of those with two little kids. But thankfully it's been 10 in this house and I hope to be here a while longer.

Are you actually having the house moved?

If you have a lot of stuff to move it's really a pain, but it does have it's funny side too. Here's a couple of thoughts from commenters over an Ann Althouse's law blog, just to lighten the mood: In order to get me to move, there has to be some sort of otherworldly force that comes in and hits me in the face. A flood. A fire. An earthquake. Drugs and prostitution outside my window. Noise. Those are all signs from up above telling me to get out. Short of that, nothing can make me move.
--Peace, Maxine To quote my husband, "I'd rather take a good ass kickin' than move."
--Ruth Ann Good luck Jeralyn! ---edger

You said you were "moving your house" 1/2 block. If you are indeed actually moving your house rather moving into a different house - that's a project! Of course, it might still be preferable - you could leave everything upstairs in place & just throw-out whatever fell & broke.

I'm moving to a different place 1/2 block away, not moving the house. Thanks for all the kind words. I think the hardest part will be the unpacking everything Tuesday night and Wednesday and re-hooking up all the computers (4, 3 desktops and a laptop), printers, scanners, fax and tvs (3), each with cable boxes, dvd recorders, vcr's, etc.

It's only when you go to move that you realize how much useless crap you accumulate.
