Losing Iraq: New Slogan Needed

by TChris

As the military redeploys troops to hold Baghdad, it's in danger of losing the rest of the country.

"We do not have sufficient troop strength to secure the entire country simultaneously," Andrew Krepinevich, a military analyst, said in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "Trying to be strong everywhere will lead us to being strong nowhere."

Meanwhile, we're told that the administration's policy isn't to "stay the course" -- a prospect that looks bleak no matter how often the president repeats the mantra. Instead, the policy is "constantly being adjusted." Is this the latest version of the "adapt to win" slogan that never seemed to gain traction?

Redeploy the troops. Introduce articles of impeachment of Bush and Cheney now. By the time the idiots are gone, Pelosi will be in a position to manage things until the elections of 2008. WTF are we waiting for? These guys are effing criminals. And lousy ones at that. The military is with us. WE know it. The generals will defend the country, and that means from ALL threats. They know perfectly well that Bush is a greater threat to the world than the "anti-war" movement. It's obvious the military sees Bush's insanity as a threat. We better get on the stick before we have the whole world against us.

Talk about desperation. Today on NPR news I heard a report that recruitment levels for the Armed Services (didn't catch which particular service, however) are UP. Because, as the news reader said, the standards on the aptitude test for joining up have been lowered. Did anyone else hear this news?

"If the appeal to arms is made, it will depend entirely on the disposition of the army whether it issue in liberty or despotism." --Thomas Jefferson to Edward Rutledge, 1788.
I'm fairly optimistic about which side the army would choose at this point. What worries me is how bad things would have to get before We The People took up arms against the Bush junta.

    The military is with us.
Sorry, no, they're not. I don't see the military turning against the hand that feeds them, quite the contrary. The military love war. They get lots of shiny new weapons, lots and lots of lovely money, promotions, and of course best of all, they get to kill people and blow up stuff, which is always so much fun to do. You may have a few generals grumbling, specially when things really start to go wrong, but on the whole the military are quite happy to be in a permanent state of war. Eisenhower had it exactly right when he warned about the military-industrial complex.

Well, that theory has been put to test all over South and Central America. The results, show that it has failed miserably. But hey, who wants to wait for democratic elections? Certainly not the Left.
