Fitz Continues Indictments in Illinois Corruption Probe

Patrick Fitzgerald, true to his modus operandi, has turned some more defendants in the Illiniois corruption probe, and now, three weeks prior to election day, has indicted the top aide to Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.

Businessman Antoin "Tony" Rezko was charged with operating a fraud scheme in which he, millionaire political contributor Stuart Levine and other insiders used Levine's position as a member of two state boards to pressure companies to pay kickbacks in exchange for state business. Levine is among those previously charged in the case.

Rezko's lawyer Joseph Duffy says:

The indictment unsealed Wednesday "appears to be the creation of Stuart Levine, a twice-indicted individual desperate to curry favor with the government to avoid being held accountable for his many years of corruption," Duffy said.

Levine's attorney confirms the cooperation:

Levine attorney Jeffrey B. Steinback said Wednesday that Levine "is cooperating as he has since early this year, and it is his full intention to continue to cooperate."

being from Illinois I can tell you that the gov does have some questionable things about him. His challenger worked in Ryan (in the big house now) administration. We do have a history of corruption. We've kept both Jr and Sr Daley's in office for years. I'd be worrying about some of the other garbage from the gop in vunerable races. The repubs are going to roll out the dirty stuff now. Don't worry over RB. He's like 20 points ahead and stuff like this hardly raises a yawn in this state.

I too live in Illinois and we have to be a contender for the most corrupt state in the union. There are approximately 28 indictments of state/federal politicos at the moment. But for governor, we have dumb vs dumber. If the repubs could have the likes of an Edgar or Big Jim Thompson instead of Topinka I would definitely vote in the right column which i have not done in years. Both candidates suck.
