2008 Contenders

Conservative blogger La Shawn Barber and I were on MSNBC this afternoon discussing possible 2008 contenders. I got to bash John McCain and Rudy Giuliani. Not surprisingly, La Shawn agreed. They aren't conservative enough for her and are too conservative for me.

We also talked about Hillary and Obama. Both La Shawn and I thought Obama needs more experience and didn't know if Hillary would run. I said I'd like to see a woman in the White House, La Shawn thought she's too polarizing to win. Neither of us were big on Tom Vilsack.

As for who we would like to see run, I said Russ Feingold and John Edwards. La Shawn said Tom Tancredo, at which I burst out laughing.

If you'd like to watch the segment, you can do so here, courtesy of Hot Air. It was fun because I like LaShawn, and even though normally we don't agree on a lot, we did today.

ms. barber must think quite highly of you, you were reduced to "a liberal blogger" on her's.

i read some of it, wasn't real impressed. if this is the best of the right, than the left has little to fear. deep intellectual thought doesn't seem to be her style.

Yeah, I've read her blog and I'm not impressed either. That said, I don't much respond to anyone regardless of their political stance who can't demonstrate some intellectual depth. Very few of the  so-called 'right-wing' blogs demonstrate such, along with some 'left' leaning blogs as well.

    Geez...

(at the risk of being a brown noser) The conservative was out of her league.

Feingold has pulled his hat out of the ring. And as much as I hate to agree with Ms. Barber, Hillary is too polarizing. Who (among potential candidates) did more to elect Democrats this season than Wes Clark?  He paid a lot of dues and is owed a lot of favors.  Don't count him out.

I'm not overly impressed with Barber, either. But I don't think I'd underestimate her ability to reach and sway an audience. She might not be a blinding intellect but she's not dumb. She doesn't come across as a crazed and rabid right wingnut. She seems friendly enough and honest and even though her blogs "traffic ranking" is quite a bit lower than Talklefts she's experiencing a gradual and steady growth in "daily reach". Which means people are litening to her and her commenters, and liking what they hear....

Slow but steady is always something to keep an eye on, I think.
