Say Hello to Foreign Policy Watch

I'm a soft-touch for college kids who start serious blogs. I've been reading Matthew Yglesias since he was at Harvard and Ezra Klein since he was at USC. Both have developed into excellent professional writers.

So when I got an e-mail today to check out the new Foreign Policy Watch Blog, described as "Diplomatic strategy, international news, and thoughtful political analysis" written by a 19 year old freshman at Brown University, Jeb Koogler, I took a look. From the blogroll, he leans left. And like Matt and Ezra, Jeb writes intelligently about serious stuff. I hope you'll check him out.

    But I'm a big fan of Brown University.  Everyone I know who has gone there has turned out to be very smart with a real head on their shoulders.  

    I'm no academic and at 19, while I was in college, I sure couldn't write or think about serious issues (besides the Vietnam War -- and even then, all I could do was march, not contribute to a national policy discussion.)

    These kids are our future.  They deserve our attention and our respect.

    Cool. People like Koogler and others his age and with his focus and interests will be running things before too long.

    Foreign policy analysis? 19 years old?  We'd better pay attention.

    I'm going to the Middle East on Sunday. To Israel and Jordan first, and then, depending on the security situation, to Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, or Libya.

    Wow, have a great time! I get the impression, from that long list of countries, that perhaps you have been to the Middle East many times before.

    I'm curious to know where you'll be going in Jordan and Syria, in particular. I was lucky enough to be able to live in those countries last year and I would very much like to return in the near future. If I guessed wrong, and this is your first time to either country, let me know as I'd be more than happy to give you some thoughts on interesting places to go, good restaurants, etc.

    Bigotry?
    I was looking at the Beck piece you wrote.  Could find no racism there. Besides there are many more millions more non-Arab moslems compared to Arab moslems.  Islam is a religion, not a race.  There are even Arab Christians and Jews.
