The Haggard Fallout

From Aravosis:

This is from Stephen Bennett, a top spokesman of the religious right, and yet another man loosely affiliated with the Concerned Women for America.
Will this affect the elections next Tuesday? Are Republicans disenfranchised with the hypocrisy within their own party - especially the hypocrisy within the driving force - the Christian Conservative base? You better believe it. The more and more hypocrisy I see each day, the more I realize next Tuesday we are going to get EXACTLY what we deserve. Yet I must NEVER forget where I came from and always remember 'But for the grace of God, there go I.

Generally speaking this is used in the context of the experience being recounted. What is Mr. Bennett really saying? That there's more of these smug, self-righteous hypocritical bible-thumpers who are actually thumping more than their bibles, and in a very sinful way to boot. Or he has done the same thing and it just hasn't come out yet?

It would be fine except that this - THIS - is part of the base upon which they are founded, they flaunt it (no pun intended, here) while at the same time BEING it. Their schizophrenia is frightening but their hypocrisy is deafening.

As for their 'empire' - these are the very people  "the Christ" they preach about would unceremiously  toss out of the temple. They don't have a clue about what being a follower of Christ is about. They are posers of the worst sort.

It is not schizophrenia but the defenses of a disturbed psyche that permit individuals like Haggard to engage covertly in behavior that they overtly denounce.  Unable to accept certain fundamental aspects of themselves--about which they experience great conflict and anxiety--they resort to the defenses of repression, denial, projection, et al.  What often occurs, of course, is that the repression of self is sublimated into the repression of others, who represent--directly or indirectly--the disavowed part of the self.  Thus, those who are the most repressive tend to be the most repressed.  Cases such as Haggard, Mark Foley, and the like are entirely expectable.

is  the mere loss of power they are going to expereince on Tuesday, it will be more than they deserve.

I would have used it that way if that's what I meant, jezzus.

This is the definition I was shooting for: "a state characterized by the coexistence of contradictory or incompatible elements."

    As you state here:

'It is not schizophrenia but the defenses of a disturbed psyche that permit individuals like Haggard to engage covertly in behavior that they overtly denounce.'
    Yeah, no sh*t.

Do "clinicians" usually diagnose people they have never met let alone treated?

Let's save the psycho-babble for daytime talkshows.

What is psycho babble any way?  Does it mean that psychiatry is a farce? Are you Tom Cruise?

Let's not diagnose the good reverend.  I think it more appropriate to pray for his soul that will surely burn in eternity at the hands of satan.

If this were a democratic president's spiritual advisor, I wonder how it would be portrayed?  I wonder if he and Mark Foley ever attended a Playgirl party together and if Mark ever texted him?  Nah, he is too old.

It means that someone who pretends to have professional insight into the psyche of a person he has never even met on the basis of a few aricles is full of crap. I'm confident most mental health professionals would concur.

    Any other questions?

Who's spouting psycho-babble? What's the matter, can't handle words like 'psyche'? Damnit if Bill Frist can do it - we can do it.

This man's comeuppance is just too sweet.
