Olberman Leads MSNBC Surge

Olberman really soaring:

Some highlights:
  • Olberman's 266,000 Adults 25-54 represent a 63% increase versus November 2005. His 689,000 total viewers represent a 49% increase.
  • Olbermann is now a solid number two among the cable newsers at 8pm. He was a distant number three a year ago.
  • Competitively Bill O'Reilly continues to slide, -19% in total viewers from a year ago.
  • A Year ago Paula Zahn on CNN maintained a 67% edge over Olbermann in total viewers, but her 11% slide coupled with Olbermann's 49% inclrease has catapulted Olbermann past her into second place.

Which makes this post by Red Stater Leon Wolf ridiculing me for pointing to Olberman as MSNBC's future in June 2005 all the more hilarious:

As proof that they deserve all the mockery we can muster, I offer you this from Armando at dKos:
I saw this ratings synopsis and it really impressed me that it looks like Olberman is really the biggest show on MSNBC now. Pretty impressive. Remember, Hardball was their signature show.
Now, I'll grant you, this is pretty hilarious in and of itself. When you click on the link itself, the one thing you are ACTUALLY impressed with, when checking Olberman's ratings, is that he is consistently pummeled each and every single night by O'Reilly, Zahn, and usually (!) Grace.

Looking forward appears to be a problem for the Right. Here was Michelle Malkin sneering at me for calling the January 2005 Iraq elections "an exercise in pretty pictures." I think maybe I was onto something.

    armando? is that you? (5.00 / 1) (#13)

    armando?

    back from the dead.

i was just wondering recently where your passion and your words had gone.

    now i know.

"big tent democrat". i have no quarrel with that

    but

in measures of passion and personality, i would say "big tent roustabout" was closer.

    be that as it may,

it's great to know your voice is back on the scene.

i'll take the inevitable occasional surges of angry words as simply an indication that it's armando for sure, not some weblog impersonator.

as for the substance of your comments, olberman rises for the seem reason the weblog world rises, because they tells people the (approximate) truth, as it is known at the time.

fox news is shrinking; the nitwit leading the
NY(twit)Times is under share-buying attack from hank greenberg; the wapoop, in the persons of its resident wisemen: george "the fake intellectual" will, richard, "the perverse idiot" cohen, charles, "the moral bully" krauthammer, and david, "the bassett hound of washington" broder continue to sing on the burning ramparts.

    who cares.

their song is fading and their hold on the american political debate is slipping.

    give'em hell armando.

If Olberman is on the move what about Beck? (none / 0) (#1)
by Slado on Thu Nov 30, 2006 at 05:19:17 PM EST
This forward thinking conservative thinks Glen Beck is the bigger story because his ratings are up 155% and he's on lousy headline news.

Also these rankings show Olberman in 2nd, 3rd or 4th place in his time slot and as far as total veiwers he's no better then 10th depending on the day.   On average he doesn't get more veiwers the O'Reiley, Greta, Hannity and Colmes, Britt Hume, Larry King, Lou Dobbs or even repeats of the Factor (when I watch it).

When are you predicting that Olberman takes over the #1 slot so I can mark it down?

    http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/

Why are you so anxious to hype Olberman?  He's doing fine more power to him but why the hype?

His own ratings? Year over year?

Due respect, do you understand how ratings work?\

Do you know what the demo means?

Do you understand what a trend is?

Look at the direction of the arrow. Honestly Slado, I epect better from you than this.

    I'm just pulling your chain.

I could care lest if Olberman is winning the partisan blowhard award.

My favorite is Chris Matthews because he's a raving lunatic.

My point was only while he may be moving up as you say we'll see if he ever becomes a "solid" #2 ant then #1.

He is currently neck in neck witht he rest of the O'Reiley wannabees and maybe O'Reiley is indeed on his way down but I'm far from counting him out yet.

All new shows if they continue on will rise in the rankings the real trick is becoming and staying #1.

    We shall see.

O'Reilly's "Factor" schtick is getting old...much the same as his "Current Affair" schtick got old.  I used to catch him now and again for the unintentional comedy, but even that grew tiring.

Olberman gets my viewership now when I'm in the mood for a talking head.

I can't fathom that. Beck is completely unwatchable. Not just because he's a pudgy moron, but the production simply sucks. Somebody get that man a desk. I know, I know, he's supposed to be a breath of fresh air, or something, but I have more professional-looking talk shows that I made with a camcorder when I was six years old.

Olbermann actually was on MSNBC in the earlier show.  I was a faithful fan then, as now.  He did resign because of his disgust with having to be part of the All-Monica-All-the-Time obsession.  After that, he went to Fox, but as a sports commentator.

I was wondering if there are ratings for how often Olberman is accessed on the web.  For example, an Olberman clip is automatic viewing for me if I see it posted on crooks and liars. Just speculation but could part of Olberman's surge in popularity be due to websites like crooks and liars and Youtube.

Whoa there, Jim. Take the blinders off. Slow down. I know that nested quote may have been confusing, but most of it was written by conservative blogger Leon Wolf. Here, I'll put Leon's words in bold. I'm not sure how you didn't pick up on the part about how we should all mock Armando aka BTD, since this is his post and all, but I won't press this point further.

As proof that they deserve all the mockery we can muster, I offer you this from Armando at dKos:

I saw this ratings synopsis and it really impressed me that it looks like Olberman is really the biggest show on MSNBC now. Pretty impressive. Remember, Hardball was their signature show.

So, to summarize. The "pummeling" part was written by an opposing party. In addition, he was referring to ratings, not rhetorical bashing, although Bill of the Well-Falafeled Loofah does lash out at Keith pretty often. I don't think Paula Zahn and Nancy Grace do, though. ;)
