R.I.P. Ed Bradley

Sad news to report today that CBS and 60 Minute correspondent Ed Bradley has died of leukemia at age 65.

Bradley was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago, but was in remission. He apparently took a turn for the worse two weeks ago, contracting pneumonia and succumbing to the disease.

Wow... Bradley was one of the best. They don't very often make journalists of his caliber. He'll be missed.

    RIP, Ed.

He will be missed, and remembered both as a true journalist and lover of jazz.

I stood next to Ed several times over the past 15 years in a jazz tent down at the New Orleans jazz and Heritage Festival.

    He did love Jazz.

OFF topic (More Peaches brusshes with fame)-I stood next to Jimmy Carter once in the Gospel tent, too.

He was low-keyed and lacked the attention-drawing style of Wallace and Safer but he was the best interviewer. The "gotcha" confrontations were often great fun to watch but Bradley was extremely good at getting people to be revealing.

He was good at relaxing them into slipping the "gotcha" knife into themselves before they realized they' done it.

go**amn shame. Bradley was cool and a geat interviewer. He will be missed. Start the party.

I guess that when we die we all live on in the memories of others who have known us. I try to live my life so that when people remember me after I'm gone, they smile, or laugh outright.

Whether there is or is not an afterlife existence should make no difference in how we live our lives and try to protect our future generations from extinction. We should be using our higher functions (that God may or may not have given us) to move beyond the primal instinct level of violence that pervades our world and form a complete, totally inclusive and self sustaining global community. I think Mr. Bradley would like that.

Bradley was a real journalist...he will be missed.

As more and more of the old guard of television journalists pass away and retire...tv news suffers.  99% of their replacements are best described as spokesmodels...not journalists.

Infotainment, or glitz over substance seems to be the way of the MSM these days. Gotta keep dumbing 'em down on the farm, I suppose. I rarely turn the tube on any more, and get all my news online now. I wonder what stats on that would look like... people seem to be getting informed enough to do what thet did on Tuesday. How? Word of mouth combined with web or what? If they'd only listened to the MSM I think we might have seen a much different result.

More of Ed Bradley's spirit would be a good thing.

The only news I get from tv is sports news on ESPN.  Real news is strictly newspapers and internet.

Case in point in the spokesmodel phenomena is Katie Couric.  If she's a journalist, I'm an astronaut.

Even newspapers I only read online now, so I can quickly compare stories from multiple sources. And yes, the air gets a bit thin around the Katies.

But there is just something about spreading out the morning paper with a cup of coffee that I can't let go of...the smell of the fresh ink, the crinkling sounds...the whole newspaper experience.  Besides...it's hard to bring the computer into the can.

I buy 3 papers everyday...NY Newsday for news, NY Daily News for editorials, sports and the best letters to the editor of any paper, and the NY Post for laughs and to see what the adversaries are up to.

spreading out the morning paper with a cup of coffee

Yeah. I do miss that part I admit - except for the fact I had to usually do it with yesterdays paper. I have a slight allergy and fresh printers ink makes my ears ring...

Now I have coffee and breakfast at the computer, which is also my stereo and my alarm clock - I've turned 40 years of music into MP3's - very handy - music starts playing at 5AM.

I would have thought of it first if you hadn't. ;-)

My current "WakeUp" scheduled task opens a playlist of The Band, beginning with Rag Mama Rag followed by Ophelia, btw. heh.

Great way to start the day. :-)

I hope Ed Bradley doesn't mind us talking about music here - you know, I kind of think he might like that, actually!
