In the "you can't make this stuff up" department: A four year old Texas pre-kindergartner hugged his teacher and then rubbed his face against her chest.

He was suspended for ""inappropriate physical behavior interpreted as sexual contact and/or sexual harassment."

The kid's father filed a complaint with the school district. Their response?

...a subsequent letter from the district said the offense had been changed to "inappropriate physical contact" and removed references of sexual contact or sexual harassment from the boy's file.

Memo to school district: Give it up now, apologize, reinstate the kid and save yourselves a boatload of money.

    You have to be pretty warped sexually to complain that a four-year-old touched you inappropriately. I don't think that person should be anywhere near four-year-olds.

    Yes, I agree absolutely.  All a 4 year old is looking for is care and support.  It is possible that he might nestle into the breast of a care giver, but that seems pretty damn normal.  Good lord wtf is wrong with our society?

    I have never heard of a pre-k that would take something as sweet and good and innocent as a hug and turn it into something bad and perverse.  To quote from John Candy in the movie Uncle Buck "they're ALL good kids, until dried-out, brain-dead skags like you drag them down and convince them they're no good."

    Although the AP story is from Waco, the school is in the La Vega ISD, and someone has quickly posted about the incident on Wikipedia:

    In 2006 school administrators gave a 4-year-old student an in-school suspension for inappropriately touching a teacher's aide after the pre-kindergartner hugged the woman. A letter from La Vega school district administrators to the student's parents said that the boy was involved in "inappropriate physical behaviour interpreted as sexual contact and/or sexual harassment" after he hugged the woman and touched her breasts. It seems that either the child has such advanced cognative development to be interested in sex, or the school district employs individuals who are aroused by a 4 year old. Unfortunately, the school district is siding with the aide, unlike a school in New York who fired NAMBLA member Peter Melzer. Any school district employee who is aroused by a child should be escorted off the campus by police, not protected.

    With that attention span, he's not even going to connect the punishment to what prompted it.  They might get better results by just telling him he was suspended last week.

    for his actions.  Couldn't he read?

    Administrators said the district's student handbook contains no specific guidelines referring to contact between teachers and students but does state that inappropriate physical contact will result in a discipline referral.

    To be fair, we should know the context of what happened. It's highly unlikely, but possible that he might be just reenacting something he might have seen on TV, in which case, he should be told not to do that. But suspension for a 4 year old, that's kinda...well dumb. And without knowing all the facts, it really makes the school district look crazy b/c after all it's a 4 year old.

    as though the principal, having been outed as an idiot, internationally, now finds the need to dig in his heels, even knowing that he'll eventually be overruled, either by the school board (if they have any sense) or the courts.

    been there, done that. the parents will be forced to hire an attorney, which is when they'll actually get the attention of the powers that be, with the threat of litigation hanging over them, like a damocles sword.

    suddenly, swiftly, like a bolt of lightening, the record will be expunged, apologies will be made, handshakes all around.

    btw, texas doesn't have all that much left to pump, in the way of oil, and the united states will maintain ownership of the gulf of mexico. so losing texas will hardly make a noticable dent in known oil reserves.

    Uh....what? Will they still have ownership of the atlantic? how bout the pacific? oh well that's cool, we'll just get mexico to let us do our business from their ports. and many of the US oil companies are based in Texas...so they're coming with. we've got enough technology where we'll be cool. ross perot's people up in Dallas can come through on that part for us. we'll all have plenty of beef and chicken cuz a whole lot of the US livestock market comes from Texas. plenty of cotton fields to make us some clothes. so as long as we can handle the heat of global warming, I think we'll be aight down here. BUT, we will have to travel abroad to ski and go to the beach cuz we're running low on mountains and who really wants to swim in the gulf of mexico around galveston....gross. Willie Nelson for president! - that way, you know our taxes will be low...haha
