Matt Drudge: Shill for Liberals?

Now I have heard everything:

Matt Drudge, who may or may not be a willing accomplice to the distortion of news reporting, must be held responsible for the dissemination of the bias in the liberal press. . . . A study of press bias by a professor of political science at the University of California-Los Angeles, Tim Groseclose, listed the Drudge Report as one of the most liberal sites on the Web because it consistently posts articles from left-of-center sources.

My patience with the Drudge Report ended when I saw a photo of Frank Rich of the Times posted on the site along with his words: "We are losing in Iraq." It isn't too encouraging to the morale of the nation, but posts like this are common on Drudge.

The site gives top billing to every possible negative statement about the Iraq war and the Bush administration, and it gets about 13 million hits a day. Is it any wonder that President Bush has record low approval ratings?

Wow. Just wow.

h/t Jason Zengerle and Josh Marshall.

Here is a summary of Groseclose's seriously flawed study, which took him three years.

Most of the outlets were less liberal than Lieberman.....

    So much for liberal bias.

Even assuming everyone over at the NY Sun is a right wing shill, how does this even get printed?  It is absurd on its face.

confuse the term "liberal media" with two year olds crying for attention. Anyone who reads more than an opening paragraph of a Drudge article (which the UCLA investigators apparently failed to do) will find the usual libertarian BS feigning progressiveness. This has fooled the UCLA researchers. They should get out more.
    Qualifier: I went to USC.

They really just want headlines. Conservative opinions are, well, boring. We left wing rads are much more interesting to report on. We're so wacky! And wacky sells.

And they still consistently miss the real message.

Drudge links to articles meant to incite conservatives.  He has a penchant for linking to articles about stupid things the ODonnells and Streisands of the world say.  That is by no means endorsing their position.

i've read this several times, the headline always causing me to go "huh?". i suppose it's possible, as it's possible the moon is made of cheese.

oh, wait, we've actually been to the moon, and it isn't!
