Laura Bush: Presidency Not for Single Women

Here's Laura Bush on why Condoleezza Rice won't run for President:

Mrs. Bush referenced Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and noted that while she would be a "really good candidate", Rice is not interested in the job.

"Probably because she is single, her parents are no longer living, she's an only child. You need a very supportive family and supportive friends to have this job," the First Lady said.

After the COndi workout video and all her venues "testing the water" she obviously decided that she could not win. Laura Bush's self serving remark is utter BS.

Typical RNC double talk. If Condi needs a wife and family to be sucessful in government, why has she been able to keep up with the stress and do her job. Unless the RNC is saying that Condi is a failure, I would agree, but not because she doesn't have a wife.

Was Laura's statement a plug for gay marriage?

Sometimes the only people who can abide the idiot Decider-In-Chief are their spouses and the dog.

    Sure, it's because she's single... (none / 0) (#2)

And not because she will forever be known as one of the "stars" of the most failed presidency, with the most deluded and destructive foreign policy, that this blessed Union has seen since is wasn't one.

Poor Laura, she is married to Dubya after all.  No other domestic horror could so render a person as catatonic as she seems.

It could not possibly be because... (none / 0) (#3)

...she has removed all doubt as to her inability to do her previous job, National Security Advisor, or her stunning ignorance of her current job as Secretary of State, which is the position they gave her 'cause Cheney didn't want to have her in the Whitehouse anymore.

And just what can you say about a diplomat that has no idea of what being "diplomatic" means? She makes no attempt at diplomacy, instead favoring the repetition of bush demands to be met before she will talk to anyone.

She is the laughingstock of world diplomats, getting snubbed not only in the M.E., but throughout South America as well.

Being single has nothing to do with being stupid and making horrible decisions while basking in her ignorance.

    Mornin', all.

Though the overwhelming fantasy candidate of the right (like Gore is with the left) Rice, like Gore, will not run.
Rice's reasons are not the same as Gore's.
Rice has a damaged resume after being Jr.s little helpmate for 8 years in carrying out the disaster of his foreign policy and iraq in particular.
She is a failure as a Sec. of State and has done nothing to promote diplomacy.
She is one of the few realists to know that she would be crushed and destroyed if she ran.  It would be her undoing.  She is smart to get out of politics and maybe go back to academia.

Laura does have a point, mediated through the haze of whatever they've got her on.  It would be exceedingly difficult, intrinsically, for any single person to be elected to the WH, and then to work there as President.  In most cases, the President has no one person whom he/she can trust to just speak freely.  Nor, is a single person able to watch his/her own back, or provide the insights into other people that can come only from the confidence built over years (or decades) that usually exists even between political spouses.

Moreover, just imagine all the problems something as trivial (in the larger scheme of things) as arranging state dinners;  can you imagine the media reaction if (putative) single male President Bob Whomever decided it was time to buy new china for the WH?  Or had to take time from policy calls to review seating charts?  Let alone getting a date....

Like it or not, it seems the Presidency carries with it the sign "married only".

If that were the case, President Bob Whomever would have someone like Condi around. Isn't that her function for Bush?

    BTW- Who is she f%*king?

All joking aside, you're right America is not ready for a homosexual president, married or not.
