Miss USA Going Into Rehab

Donald Trump believes in second chances. He's not going to fire Miss USA Tara Conner for underage drinking. Instead, she's going to rehab and will retain her title.

Ms. Connor turned 21 a few days ago.

Maybe it's time to lower the drinking age to 18. That's what it was in New York when I was that age.

If you're old enough to sign a contract, get married and die in a foreign war, you should be old enough to have a drink.

That's why they lowered the drinking age most places  the first time.  It was crazy to draft kids and send them off to VietNam when they weren't old enough to drink.

When I was a kid there was a problem with fatalities on the roads between NJ and NY because it was 21 in NJ and 18 in NY.  If we were to lower it, I'd like to see it uniformly applied.

I've heard there's a similar problem with drunk driving along the causeway between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain (where alcohol is legal).

But if drinking when you're 20 is outlawed, only outlaws will drink when they're 20...

and only three comments...I voted for letting states decide.  I'm curious as to what the vote for "Other" meant.  Back on Miss USA, didn't she test + for cocaine as well?

The "other" vote was to eliminate the drinking age all together. The drinking age is no substitute for education by the family et al. Creating a goal post makes only makes it more mysterious, dangerous and appealing.

I know here the drinking age was 19 for beer, 21 for hard liquor. 18 for smoking - whatever ya wanted, cigs, tiparillos, pot..... then became the uniform 21.

I know when we were stationed at Ft. Knox & Ft. Campbell, there were counties in Kentucky that were dry. Specifically at Ft. Knox in order to eat out & drink alcohol, you had to drive somewhere outside of that county. Sometimes it was two or three counties surrounding each other and you REALLY had to go on a road trip. It was mentioned Ms USA is a Kentuckian.

We didn't get that dry/wet county bit. Thought among some of the stupidest things we've run across.

I mean does she really need rehab?

I know many, many peole who drank themselves crazy at 18-21 or while in college and rarely drink now.

This is pitiful.  Just say the girl has agreed to cut down on the going out.

    Rehab is completely unnecessary.

It's called binge drinking and most college age young people give it a go while in college or just after high school through the "roaring 20's" and then calm it down when they get married and or real jobs.

I don't think it was the drinking that got this girl in trouble.  More the dancing and covorting that goes on when young girls hit the town.

    A la Ms. Spears

Today, various media reports inform that there might have been more to Trump's decision than just a rumor about her partying too much. TMZ claims that the beauty queen failed a drug test for cocaine and that this was why she was sent home in the first place, and not because of underage drinking.

Then, it is said that her relationship with Miss Teen USA, Katie Blair, was taken beyond the stage of friendship and that the girls often engaged in sexually explicit dance moves and kissed as often as they could every time they went clubbing together. 'Tara was a party animal... I've seen them kiss before. They always dance all sexy on the tables. They definitely got close', one source told the media.

Between Tony Sinclair pitching his "Ready to Tanqueray" and Bombay Sapphire broadcasting surreal, blue filtered, elephants-walking-on-martini-glasses commercials for their booze, I'm starting to think this alcoholism stuff might be worth a try.

    Rehab?!

I realize that rehab is just a celebrity's Mea Culpa, but it does send a message that anyone who drinks a drop of alcohol is an alcoholic, which I don't think is healthy, although I'm sure the New Temperance movement (i.e. MADD) would encourage such a notion. But when you consider that there's an ad  every 15 minutes telling you that if you smoke ONE JOINT then you've helped fund Osama and turned your kid brother into a car thief, I guess it's not out of line these days.

Maybe they should let you drink in NYC when you're 18 but while they'e at it they should give you back the right to smoke and the right to eat fatty foods.

    No fun
