Muslims in Solidarity With Jews Over Holocaust

This is the kind of holiday story I like to see.

Local Muslim leaders lit candles yesterday at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum to commemorate Jewish suffering under the Nazis, in a ceremony held just days after Iran had a conference denying the genocide.

American Muslims "believe we have to learn the lessons of history and commit ourselves: Never again," said Imam Mohamed Magid of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society, standing before the eternal flame flickering from a black marble base that holds dirt from Nazi concentration camps.

i've read the WP, nearly every day, for the past 40 odd years. i know for a fact that they've published articles, and editorials, on the armenian genocide, with quotes from both survivors and their descendents. the reason i know this is because that's how i learned about it to begin with, probably 30 years ago.

you should do a bit of research, before engaging in baseless hyperbole.

as far as the issue in question, i'll take anything i can get. who knows what their true motivation is, i don't. you have some special insight, or a crystal ball diogenes?

whatever it is, i'll take it. maybe it is cynical opportunism, but you just never know. perhaps, by them coming together this way, it might open the door for cynical opportunism to be eventually replaced by a true understanding and appreciation of each other.

guess what? i'll run that risk.

Seeing more of this would be wonderful in more ways than one.

I checked these links; among the top ten are several saying that this imam does not help the FBI and is somehow connected to some Saudi financier.  Are you saying that the Imam is a good guy and that I missed it or that he is a bad guy and I missed it?  Or is he a good Sunni with some Saudi ties at heart, which is what I meant to say in the first place.

I'm saying it took me about 3 seconds to find out vastly more information than you had even attempted to find out about the guy.

And you still don't even think to look beyond that.... what would you find if you spent 5 minutes? or 5 hours? Or  walked into a mosque? Or approached and struck up a friendship with someone who is Muslim, and opened yourself to finding out how peole live and think? Walk a mile in his shoes?

I imagine you'll miss my point again here too.

Do American Muslims show any public solidarity with Armenian genocide victims from the past or victims from Darfur in the present, or is this solidarity with Jews against Iran basically Sunnis bashing the Iranian Shiites Muslims and/or trying to get free, risk-free publicity which steps on no other Muslim toes?  (Shiites don't count as "fellow" Muslims").

I thought I was doing so here, but it would take a lot to get the Washington Post to find the comments of a grandchild of Armenian genocide survivors to be newsworthy.

you could always take the highly (for you) unusual step of doing some basic research, and go look it up.

Who knows what you might find: Results 1 - 10 of about 16,100 for Imam Mohamed Magid
