Told You Harman Was The Better Choice

Reyes feels free to do this:

In a surprise twist in the debate over Iraq, Rep. Silvestre Reyes, the soon-to-be chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said he wants to see an increase of 20,000 to 30,000 U.S. troops as part of a stepped up effort to “dismantle the militias.”

Sure Reyes, that'll do it. What a dope.

Harman had seen the light. We had gotten her to see the light. She would never have done this.

Democrats as a party are not against the war.

Why do you keep acting surprised every time something like this happens.

leadership is not progressive and its not anti-war.

    Even worse. (5.00 / 1) (#5)

If one supports the war and wants it to proceed and end successfully and within a reasonable amount of time, 30k troops is a tenth of what is needed.  30k troops is like throwing a bathtub full of water into the Chicago fire.  Useless AND a waste of a precious resource.

but there are not 300k troops available and the US isn't leaving unless they get thrown out.

Staying as our soldiers are slowly picked off.  It's   simply horrible.

Staying the course as our soldiers are slowly transformed into heroes. It's simply freedom.

Those who want to stay are willing to call for the draft required to produce 300k troops.

    From Kaus:

Congressman Reyes apparently prefers a virtual fence along the border over a real one. His daughter was hired at a company that built some virtual fences back in the 1999-2000. It also turns out that the company did a terrible job of it, too.

TPMmuckraker has the details on that.

Send them more targets. Right, great idea. While at it maybe the Democrats can try to appeal to more of the religious right who've been supporting this kind of crap all along, since they are so concerned about 'right to life'. Bring them in and help build consensus for idiocy like this, you know?

Damnit, I was afraid of this. My wife told me the other day she heard him interviewed on the radio on her way home. She said she could not believe how absolutely dumb he seemed.

    Crap.

that more troops are going to make the slightest difference in Iraq, including Reyes. But nobody wants to say it's over, start withdrawing. That's because the public would sooner hear that there's still hope that the militias can be "dismantled" than hear that there is no hope and the best you can do is to get the troops out of there and cut their losses.

The sad reality is that the public has no stake in the Iraq war, because it's fought by professional soldiers. Those soldiers will continue to be sacrificed by politicians who are more concerned about saving face than saving lives.

    Check this out.

To Mr. Stein's basic question, Mr. Everett replied, "One's in one location, another's in another location. No, to be honest with you, I don't know" the difference. Three-term Virginia Republican Rep. Jo Ann Davis, who chairs the subcommittee on Terrorism/HUMINT, Analysis and Counterintelligence, which oversees the CIA's performance in its recruitment of Islamic spies, told Mr. Stein: "It's a difference in their fundamental beliefs. The Sunni are more radical than the Shia. Or vice versa. But I think it's the Sunnis who're more radical than the Shia." Asked which branch al Qaeda's leaders follow, she reasoned as follows: "Al Qaeda is the one that's most radical, so I think they're Sunni. I may be wrong, but I think that's right."
