    Kerik surrenders (5.00 / 1) (#2)
by scribe on Fri Nov 09, 2007 at 10:26:50 AM EST
Per the NYDN, Kerik surrendered to the FBI this morning.

His indictment encompasses 16 counts and, according to the paper his exposure is 142 years incarceration, $4 mil plus in fines, and restitution of the free rent and free renovations he got.

There will be a press conference at about 11:30 ET by the US Attorney's office.

From the prior article about the indictment going down:

Prosecutors from U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia's office and the FBI agents who've investigated Kerik for the last two years wheeled cartloads of documents into the grand jury room early yesterday.

After more than three hours, the jury foreman emerged and went before Federal Magistrate George Yanthis and the courtroom was sealed. Grand jury foremen must swear before a judge that the indictment voted on by the jury is authentic. Prosecutor Elliot Jacobson, who accompanied the foreman, declined to allow reporters in the courtroom, stating, "This is a closed proceeding."

On the way out of court, one grand juror said, "They said it was going to be a long day."

    And,

The federal charges have far more serious consequences, both for Kerik and his mentor, Giuliani, who promoted him to run the city's jails, then to lead the NYPD, and finally pushed him for the Homeland Security job. Kerik's lawyer, Kenneth Breen, who did not return calls yesterday, has said he will fight any charges.

Based on the usual timeline for contested federal cases, that could mean the Kerik saga will play out month after month throughout the election season.

Given both his exposure and that Mukasey's son, working for Bracewell Giuliani, has been reported to have been blocking Kerik's defense team from even contacting potential witnesses for Kerik's defense, I'd say Kerik owes Rudy Cue Ball nothing at all in terms of rolling over, and should definitely fight, fight, fight to the bitter end.  Even if he's convicted, he can still pull a Scooter and get a free pass.  After all, because Rudy kept pushing him while he clearly knew (or should have known) Kerik was filthy dirty, Rudy's his b*tch now.

I saw that at Think Progress:

This response from Ellis Henican in Newsday is hilarious:

But I'm still a little confused about why Bernard Kerik needs money from me. The man lives in a mansion in New Jersey. He got that $4.4 million stock bonanza for sitting on the Taser board.

How's Bernie so broke? He's barely paid for his first cup of coffee, and since he left city government in 2003, he's been positively raking it in.

He's been a partner in at least two highly lucrative security firms, one with Rudy Giuliani and one that he ran. Like giant vacuum cleaners, he and Rudy have been sucking huge fees from corporations and foreign governments eager to hear tough-guy 9/11 anecdotes.

And the man needs a hundred bucks from me?

    heart breaker.

squeaky, how do you think rich people stay rich? they do it by using other people's money, not their own. in the accounting biz, we call it "cash flow management", the art of making sure the cash flows in, not out.

The super rich are always short of pocket money. Never cash on hand, so they "borrow" from the poor.

    lol

the Dems should force the MSM to take up this question.  Lord knows the MSM clicked their heels and badgered Clinton on Susan McDougal and Gore on a possible [let me repeat, possible] Clinton indictment by Robert Ray.
