Poll: Huckabee Would Lose to Dems By Double Digits

Bring on Huckabee? A new CNN Poll shows he would lose by double digits in a general election.

In head-to-head matchups -- the first to include Huckabee -- the former Arkansas governor loses to Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York by 10 percentage points (54 percent to 44 percent), to Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois by 15 points (55 percent to 40 percent) and to former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina by 25 points (60 percent to 35 percent).

Edwards does the best against all Republicans.

On the Democratic side, Edwards performs best against each of the leading Republicans. In addition to beating Huckabee by 25 percent and McCain by 8 percent, the North Carolina Democrat beats Romney by 22 percentage points (59 percent to 37 percent).

CNN's polling director Keating Holling says: [More]

"Edwards is the only Democrat who beats all four Republicans, and McCain is the only Republican who beats any of the three Democrats," Holland said. "Some might argue this shows that they are the most electable candidates in their respective parties.

"But Edwards is in third place among Democrats, and McCain is in fourth place on the GOP side. Maybe electability is not as important as it was in 2004."

because he's the best Democrat of the bunch.

People - voters - recognize that.  Especially, too, the suits in CorporateMedia and their friends in The Village, which is precisely why Edwards can't get coverage to ... well, whatever.

On the off chance (none / 0) (#2)

New York's primary makes any difference, I'm beginning to think Edwards has taken fewer stupid positions than the others, maybe because he's running as an economic populist, and deserves to win.

Edwards is to the left of Hillary and Obama (none / 0) (#3)

in a democratic primary and he still has the weakest shot of the three of winning.  My guess is that he has the highest margins because he is relatively unknown.  These early polls don't mean much, no one is activly campaigning nation wide.

I'm sure Hillary would beat Huckabiggot with same margins as Barack and Edwards.  The only person I think would have a shot at beating her is Mitt because he could pull convincingly to the center, and her name being on the ballot would keep his base intact.  That being said, I still think she would have a good chance at beating him.
