Dems and Iraq: What Tom Andrews Said

TPM Central interviews Tom Andrews on Iraq and the Dems:

The antiwar leader, Tom Andrews, the head of Win Without War . . . is warning that Congressional Dems are at risk of badly botching the public relations battle over Iraq and is urging Congressional Dems to move more aggressively to confront the Republicans in the political showdown over ending the war.

. . . "Democrats have to fight," Andrews tells us. "Where are the voices in Congress reflecting the majority view of the American people?"

. . . "The Republicans should be on their heels," Andrews says. "They have put the troops in these conditions -- and they're the ones on the offensive! There should be a relentless attack" from Dems, Andrews continues. "Dems in Congress should be talking relentlessly about the lack of equipment, the lack of training, the multiple deployments, every day. There should be a relentless demand for accountability."

While I think Andrews has to face the fact that defunding is the way to do it, I'm am with his sentiment.

Granted that the focus below is Iran, AIPAC function is to stop just the kind of debate and counterpunches that Tom Andrews is calling for.
"Knowing that to cross  the Lobby [AIPAC] is perilous, Congressmen from both parties squirm and become uneasy when pressured by AIPAC to 'protect Israel,' even if it means yet another unwinnable war for the United States.  The neocons know full well that if a war with Iran were to be  started either inadvertently or by design, few within America's  political system would be brave enough to stand up in opposition."

With some guts the answer should be:

No thanks this time, AIPAC.  You're just not credible. Can't do it for you. My constituents  aren't into more war, and they think this whole Iran thing's  a lot of hype. I can't support nuking Iran, and frankly, I don't  see how you can either. I don't think you speak for all or even most American Jews, and you can't scare me this time by accusations  of anti-Semitism. I can't have an attack on Iran my conscience,  sorry. I'd rather be defeated in the next election. Keep your money; I just can't do what you ask.

I am tired of hearing how the DEMS never say anything. We are saying these things, day after day, but like the proverbial tree falling in the forest, no one hears us becaues the Media do not give us time on their shows and they ignore these stories.
