Out of Iraq Blog Caucus or Idiot Liberals of the World Unite!

As always, I speak for me only

In my previous post, I painted with too broad a brush. Two bloggers pointed out to me that they too reject the idea that the Left Blogs should refrain from critiquing the Dems on Iraq.

Corrente:

I read plenty of blogs that have no problems whatsoever criticizing the Democrats. This one, for example. I also find that there are plenty of people at larger communities who speak out about Democratic waffling or inaction, and they are not always shouted down. But it is an interesting point to raise, given the levels of Shrill that could be found Blogosphere-wide before the election.

Gun Toting Liberal:

If I have to say so myself, it takes courage to do what we’re doing here, and that says a LOT about our co-bloggers and co-authors here at The GTL and those few other sites out there (including TalkLeft, of course) who are willing to sacrifice a LOT of “linkie-luv” and inbound traffic from our fellow “lefty” bloggers out there by standing up for what’s right, or more accurately, what REALLY is “left”.

Ok, this seems the beginning of the makings of an Out of Iraq blog caucus. Anyone else game to join us?

Yes, I like to comment, mostly for three reasons:
    • to 'second the motion' on what seems to me an underappreciated point of view

    • to add context from my own readings/browsings

    • to take issue with a point that seems to me poorly reasoned or mie-emphasized

But I'm 100% behind the 'Out of Iraq' ideas being advocated here and by such people as McJoan at DailyKos. In fact, it was BTD's GBCW diary at DailyKos that inspired me to put this blog on my short list of daily reads.

And it hasn't been the same since Kos left.  Thank god for macjoan, BarbinMd, Budhy and a few others.  I never could understand the "don't criticize the Democrats" strategy.  Souned too familiar to "America, Love it or Leave It".  We all know what that means.

At Talk to Action, we criticize Dems whenever we feel the need. Our focus is the religous right and what to do about it, so what the Dems are up to -- or not -- on the war is off topic for the site.

    However.

I am personaly with you on Out of Iraq, and I would guess that most of our front pagers would be as well.

I think that the Dems can do a whole hell of a lot better than non-binding resolutions and trust the president legislation.

None of the 12 writers at Bring It On fear critiquing the Dems. We want our party to stop coasting and get a move on. If we fear losing over doing the best thing for our country, we have already lost. An 'Out of Iraq Caucus'? We are there with bells on.

WSWS: Clinton vows to keep US troops in Iraq (5.00 / 1) (#31)
by Andreas on Sun Mar 18, 2007 at 07:36:24 AM EST
In a calculated bid to position herself for the 2008 Democratic nomination, Senator Hillary Clinton told the New York Times Wednesday that, if elected president, she would keep significant US military forces in Iraq for the foreseeable future. ...

There is an obvious reason for Clinton's refusal to repudiate her 2002 vote to authorize war against Iraq. She is signaling America's ruling elite that, should she be elected president, she is prepared to carry out even more horrendous crimes against the Iraqi people and to launch future wars of aggression against other countries in order to assert US hegemony and seize control of vital resources and markets. ...

The four-and-a-half months since the midterm elections have amply demonstrated that a genuine struggle against the war in Iraq can be waged only by breaking with the Democratic Party of Clinton as well as with the Bush administration.

The war cannot be ended by means of pressure on the existing political parties and state institutions of the US establishment. It requires the emergence of a new independent mass movement of workers and youth fighting internationally for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all US troops and for holding all those who conspired to launch this war politically and criminally accountable. This is the crucial importance of the Emergency Conference against War on March 31 and April 1 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, called by the International Students for Social Equality and the Socialist Equality Party.
