John and Elizabeth Edwards on "60 Minutes" Tonight

Don't forget to watch "60 Minutes" tonight. John and Elizabeth Edwards will be on.

Update: My thoughts (also expressed in the comments below): I was surprised at how negative Katie Couric was. Everything from her repeatedly asking the same thing to her stern expression seemed off to me. I am wondering whether she was trying to prove she can be a tough interviewer.

The Edwards were great. Composed and very articulate. I don't know how anyone could argue with their decision ... either that it's theirs to make or that it's right for them. Very impressive.

Update: Transcript and video are here.

    Katie Couric was insufferable. (4.00 / 1) (#1)

Asking some form of the same question again and again.  Thank God it was Elizabeth and John Edwards answering the questions.  I would have lost my cool and slapped Couric silly.

I have to agree with you (none / 0) (#2)

The Edwards shone though.  Very impressive.

    Katie Couric tilts towards conservatives (4.00 / 1) (#3)
by MSS on Sun Mar 25, 2007 at 07:50:34 PM EST
Whether it's through her own initiative or her producers, Katie Couric has emphasized a conservative politics rather than a 'fair and balanced' perspective (much less a liberal one).

Speakers on the Couric news hour have been predominantly conservatives, as I understand it.

    She may have also been projecting a bit (4.00 / 1) (#4)

She lost her husband to colon cancer, after only eleven years of marriage.  She had three young children to raise.  I don't think she stopped working (I don't watch The Today Show), but it was a very different kind of job.  And I thought John Edwards response that his "job" was when he was a lawyer and this was service to his country.  I don't think Katie got that concept, actually, I'm not sure she really heard it.  Ya' know, the more I think about it, the more I think that is what really bothered me about her interview.  It wasn't that she was asking stupid, repetative questions (as annoying as that was), it was that she didn't seem to be listening to the answers.

The other way to look at this is that Couric was giving the Edwards a chance to answer all the criticism from Rush and the rest of the water carriers (I thought he said he wasn't going to do that anymore, tsk, tsk, tsk) at one time. Just put all the criticism out there and let them say what they want.

Either way, it didn't hurt the Edwards.  You could tell how much they care about each other, their family, their country and how all of those things put together is the driving force of why do what they do.  It was so nice to feel like I could actually trust the words of  someone seeking public office.

I was for Edwards from the beginning, but the two of them impress me more and more, each time I see them.

Too bad I don't use it as often as I should.  This:
And I thought John Edwards response that his "job" was when he was a lawyer and this was service to his country.

    Should read:

And I thought John Edwards response, that his "job" was when he was a lawyer and this was service to his country, was excellent and an open window on his motives for wanting to be President.

But will someone please put Couric out of her, and my, misery?

A lot of the people who look at this with cynicism wouldn't vote for Edwards no matter how he handled his wife's illness. This is such a difficult and deeply personal/private decision  and very sad.

It's amazing how something like this brings out the "class" in people if you know what I mean.

Yahoo says that Edwards contributions are way up.  He got a big 60 minutes interview.  Perhaps the Edwards' motives really were squeaky clean but Rush sure was right when he said that this jumpstarted the campaign.  And as pure as Edwards is he is still smart enough to have known in advance what the effect of his actions would have been.
